Its not pedantic to get the allegations correct.

It is not actually suggested the money was passed on, just that they talked about it. Which means the story is an amusing side note, yet people on here are calling for heads in the FAI.

Nobody's seriously calling for heads in the FAI here. Even the most ardent anti Delaney posters know this story is bullsh*t and only a distraction from the serious issues he should address.

Why has it been little old Ireland and no other small European football Association with these allegations thrown at them?

No smoke without fire and all that. Nobody can argue that JD has any integrity so who knows. Whilst these accusations look wide of the mark - what else is there?

What a brand image the FAI has now and that muppet had the neck to dig into FIFA over brand image less than a month ago

Emmmm did the players know about the 5,000,400 payout from FIFA ?

Not the same though is it? This specifically says the players were given the money not to foul Messi.
Actually it says the dead bloke said he suggested it, nowhere does it state the money was paid.

Article in Guardian would suggest it was paid

The source quoted in La Nacion said he asked Grondona, who died last year, “how did you solve the Messi problem?” The AFA president, who had been in the role for 35 years, responded to the source by saying “$10,000 for each Irish player as payment not to hit Messi”.
