My take on it would be the payment was made to the FAI. Delaney would have warned the players not to touch Messi and not not mention the payment coming their way. Delaney would leave the money resting in his account for a specific period of time, before investing it in grassroots for the greater good of Irish football. Sure those players playing in the Queens leagues have enough money as it is. Delaney should be applauded for this transaction the same as the fifa payment. I think we will all see Irish football reaping the benefits of John Delaneys shrewdness in the next few years . The FAI , a great bunch of lads. Worlds no.1 football association.

So ridiculous claims that it will actually play in favour of JD that they are throwing such ludicrous at him.
Grondona, the former president of the Argentine FA is asked to stump up $3 million by Barcelona to insure Messi in a meaningless game for Argentina V Ireland. Probably in jest he said, we'll give the Irish players $10,000 each not to touch Messi. He's dead now and a newspaper prints it as a serious statement. It would like saying that delegates at the FAI Agm are paid €1,000 each not to ask a difficult question at the AGM. Hold on, funny that, there hasn't been a question asked at the AGM in 4 years!
