I was always a "find a euro or two lying around and give it to the delivery driver", however, the cost of the food and the deliveries themselves have jumped massively in the last year or two (e.g. 2.50 pre covid is now 3.50 even 4.50 in places) so I'm kind of not doing that anymore. But still then feel really guilty when the delivery driver comes to the door with a big smile on his face and I just take the food and say thanks and close door.

Made me wonder are others in the same boat or still tipping or maybe never tipped so no difference!

Cashless society as well.  I never have coins on me.   That being said I have only ever got fast food delivered to the door once in my life.

Never did, this isn't the states they're paid a living wage here.

Like whats the difference with a takeaway driver and a postman / delivery driver? You wouldn't be tipping them for delivering a package.

Unless they’re directly employed then they’re not paid a living or minimum wage. Most are in tehir own cars and the only money they make is the delivery fee per order, be that 2 or 3 orders of a quiet night or 20/30 on a busy night.

I worked as a courier for years, every now and again you would get a random tip. It did wonders for the morale and made you want to deliver their package asap. I would say if you get a regular delivery from the same place a small tip would get you their best service.

Depends on cost of delivery & take away for me. The local Domino lads are sound, always throw them 2 bob whereas the more expensive ie Camile etc have bigger fees built in so on rare occasion it’s a negative from me.

I would always try and tip.

Some of these people are earning the absolute minimum. It's only when you've done a similar job that you appreciate what they do.

On the rare occasions that I get takeaways I walk into town to get them, precisely to avoid these awkward situations. I also don't believe in tipping on general principle.

My uncle makes a point of tipping when he goes into a restaurant, waited table place before ordering. Seems to work for him and with him being older gent type, he can get away with it without it looking odd. Sets the aul tone.

They’re earning the absolute minimum because their employers know that their customers will subsidise the wages for them.

If people stopped tipping then nobody would take the job unless the employers started to pay properly.

And then, if the employee is unable to work due to being sick, pregnant or some such, their benefits would be based on a properly declared income. Not some bullsh*t zero hour nonsense.

If a customer fails to tip a delivery driver, it’s the restaurants or Deliveroo that has fecked the driver over. Not the customer.

I don't eat take away food so my tipping is more related to barista, bar, restaurant staff etc...

I don't tip delivery drivers as have already paid a delivery fee. If there was no fee then I 100% would. I'd buy the bar staff in the local a drink every night I'm in.

I'd say the bar staff are getting a better salary then the drivers. Odd logic.

I'd always lob a euro minimum for the drivers. Most of them rely on the additional tips to make it worth their while.

I'd rarely order any food. Maybe if I was doing it weekly with the same companies I'd behave differently.
It would damage this forums' reputation

Id be good for giving waiters a fairly decent tip in a restaurant. It cracks herself up cause with money she is as tight as a ducks arse.
