Diva Diary - A Day in the Life of the WNT

Monday:

Press conference today.  Katie has told us what to say.  Keep it shtum.  Katie's up first and trots out the usual lines of ''nothing to see here'' and ''all is good between Vera and us''.  All is well.  Time to put the headlines and stuff behind us and look forward.

Diane Caldwell has other ideas.  She throws out the script and does a solo run. ''We qualified in spite of Vera's outdated and useless coaching. ''

Jesus Diane. We all agreed on this like!  FFS.  A few of us are pissed off as now we have created yet another controversy.  

Training:  Eileen Gleeson takes charge on an interim basis.  The training starts with a warm up.  Some of the players are not happy.  Some want to go to the gym first.  There's a bit of moaning as we do some laps of the pitch.  We start off with a bit of a possession drill. 2 girls in the circle and they try to get the ball.  Some of the players are not happy.  Some girls are not happy with the way Eileen has barked instructions at them.  There's a bit of moaning during the drill.  Next up attack v defence.  Eileen wants 4 attackers versus the defence.  This drill is quite repetitive.  We do it over and over trying to score.  Some of the players are not happy as they don;t normally do it this way at their clubs.  There's a bit of moaning.  Eileen tells us the way we will play.  Its different from Vera.  Katie McCabe will play left wing.  Some of the players want to play in a  more forward position and are not happy.  There's a bit of moaning and hands on the hips body language.  The strength and conditioning coach orders us to the gym for a vigorous circuit of the various machines. Some of the players are not happy.  The workload is too much. There's a bit of moaning.  Some of the players flatly refuse to participate. They want to go to the ice baths instead.

Accommodation at the camp is not what some of the players want.   One unnamed player had no chocolate left on her pillow upon checking in and has thrown a bit of a strop.  There's a bit of moaning.  Eileen wants to do some video analysis of the session in the meeting room downstairs.  Some of the players are not happy at their mistakes being pointed out to them and shamed in front of the other players.  There's a bit of moaning after the meeting.

For a guy who hasnt had a good word to say about Kenny, you seem to be hell bent on defending Vera Pow from all comers.

Playing darts before training.  One if the girls has put up a picture of Vera on the dartboard.  We all have a go.  I win after getting one in her eye which is a bullseye.

Its raining today and some of the girls do not want to train as they are wearing fake tan.  Eileen makes us train anyway and there is a bit of moaning. 

A secret team meeting is called . Just the players.  Some of the senior players are not happy.  Their fake tan has been ruoned and most of it has come off in the rain. There's a vote on whether to go to Jonathan Hill to request to have Eileen ousted.  It passes unanimously. 

The girls will talk to him tomorrow on the quiet.

Match Day -1:

Some of the girls are not happy after they've been told they are not playing.  Some of them hold a secret meeting in one of the players room and decide to down tools.  Katie hears of this and storms into the room.  ''This is my fookin team and yiz'll do nothin!''   The uprising is crushed.

Not to mention names but there's a battle for power amongst a few of the senior players. I am rooming with an unnamed player but who would be quite well known to fans. I like an early night but my roomate likes to watch movies on her laptop long into the night.  The lights are out but I can see the glow of her computer screen flashing various colours on the wall.  Its bloody annoying.  Alhough she is listening to the film on her earphones I can hear her occasionally gasp or laugh as she reacts to the movie scenes.  I am pissed off now and I can't sleep. I snap at her ''turn off that bloody laptop and go to sleep''. 

Matchday:  Northern Ireland today.  My roomate woke up in a huff.  There was no conversation between us this morning. We play today at The Aviva Stadium.  What should be an exciting and good mood day is not.  There's a bad atmosphere on the bus. An unamed player beside me on the bus asks me what's wrong. I tell her.  She tells me not to pass my room mate the ball during the game.  'f**k that bitch!'  During the game I do not pass her the ball.  Late on on the first half she goes for me and we are fighting in full view on the pitch.  ''Why wont you pass me the fookin ball!?''  There's hair pulling and slapping.

Eileen drags us off holding each of us by the ear lobe.
