West Ham fans going mad about in on Twitter. All anger towards the club and rightly so. You need to reward your best young players.

He seems a very level headed and sensible guy, I'd have no qualms about bumping him up to 20K a week if I were Gold or Sullivan, he's certainly worth it.

From what I've heard it is a contract that has a large (£15k) starting bonus. So weeks he plays he'll be on closer to £25k

Rice will go nowhere and West Ham know this so just tried to low ball him with the first offer. He's getting plenty of first team opportunities at West Ham, gonna be a regular with Ireland so would be foolish to move now in his career and risk becoming a back up player at a bigger club.

West Ham signing another centre back for 22m. You'd wonder what pellegrini makes of Rice

Still no move. The word is Mawson, Issa Diop from Toulouse, and Marlon from Barcelona are all in the mix to sign. WHU need some serious movement in their defence, but I do hope that Pellegrini sees a role for Rice. It would be a shame to have his development stagnate. From our point of view, if MP sees him as a DM, that would be great news all round.

Diop signed, France under 21 international and they've given him 70k a week plus a 2.5m signing on bonus, what did they offer rice 8k?? Hope someone else comes in for rice and he decides to leave that rotten club.

Still in contract negotiations with West Ham, with Palace and Bournemouth apparently ready to take advantage if talks break down.

You would expect bigger clubs than Palace and Bournemouth to be keeping an eye

Fortunately for us, Declan Rice seems to be enjoying playing in midfield: Highlights of his performance against Villa: Will O'Neill play him there (or anywhere) when the competitive matches start, though, or will he prefer the likes of David Meyler and Stephen Quinn?

Stephen Quinn hasn't really pushed for a starting place in a long time. Our central midfield should be picked from three players out of McCarthy, Arter, Meyler, Rice, Hendrick and perhaps Browne and Hourihane if they can bring their Championship form to the international stage.

I think Rice, even given his youth and inexperience, has to be a certain starter in midfield. We're hardly overburdened with quality options in that position in any case, and Rice really looks to have the look of a player who could go all the way and end up at one of the top clubs. I'm surprised one or two of the bigger clubs haven't made a serious effort to sign him already, when you consider the issues surrounding his contract at West Ham.

for me, he has to start for us either as part of a back 3 or in the defensive midfield role

You can bet your house on Rice starting in front of a back four. While he will play the role of Glenn Whelan, and we will see him primarily disrupt opposition attacks, unlike Whelan, his ability on the ball should bear fruit when it comes to initiating attacks from what will be a deep lying position. A cracking player to have if you're looking to play a counter attacking game. His ability to break up attacks and play the simple pass but with an urgency and purpose that could make the difference. Haven't seen someone with this specific ability since Roy Keane.
