He comes across as a nice guy and is doing a great job for England. Not sure he would be much fun to get on the beers with though.

Ud imagine if it hasnt happened it would happen in the next 2 weeks before xmas. I honestly am not expecting to hear a definate answer for a while yet. Im sure mick might come out and say we have spoke to him and we will give him some more time to consider it.

When he first pulled out of a squad and it was reported that he'd spoken with Southgate I thought that that was that and his protestations to the contrary was only so much PR and damage limitation. But it does in actually sound like he is genuinely torn, and the fact that he's prepared to speak to Mick tells you that there is reason to remain hopeful.
