He was far too loose on Haaland for the first goal and played everyone onside in the build-up to the second. But he has been decent on the ball to be fair to him.

He wasn't marking Haaland for the first goal, Beyer was. On the second goal Vitinho got caught in behind out on the left, it had nothing to do with O'Shea. You going to try and find a way to blame him for the 3rd too, should he have blocked the point blank finish off the line?

He was marking him for the first goal. He dropped too far off him and Beyer came across late to try to cover for him. He fell off the defensive line in the build up to the second and played the city attack onside. They're playing the best club side in the world and he was up against the most prolific striker in the world. Relatively inexperienced players are going to make mistakes at that level, he's not the first and won't be the last, it's not the end of the world, you don't need to rush to their defence every single time... He has had good moments as well, had one great block a few minutes ago in particular.

Wonder would Obefemi have got on tonight? Burnley are fairly toothless upfront. He might get more chances than i thought previous if he could get fit

He will get chances ok when fit. He has pace, which is an asset against PL defenders. Also has played at this level before, a lot of the Burnley players tonight are new to it.

Should have done much better for Aston Villa's third goal today. Went to deal with Lucas Digne at the edge of the Burnley box and dove in, ended up on his arse and Digne got his pass to Diaby for the goal.

That was more on the right back, think it was the Welsh lad Roberts, who completely let his man go. O'Shea had to race across to try and cover for him but there was always a strong chance the Villa player was going to be able to play it inside him to the free man there no matter what O'Shea did.

O'Shea spotted the danger and got out to Digne to cover for Roberts (who was indeed caught). Having got out to Digne I would have expected better from O'Shea to block the pass or stand Digne up though. Need to see another angle, but he seemed to dive in and fall.
