With this move for O'Sea, we would also have Egan playing PL football for Sheff Utd, Collins potentially moving to Brentford and getting 1st team mins there, Omobdamidele moving to Palace and getting 1st team mins there. That's 4 CB's playing regularly in PL. Duffy will be 1st choice at Norwich, and Abankwah might also get more games next season at Udinese.

Fair to say our CB options are looking as healthy as ever.

Not every Kompany signing has worked out.

McNally barely played and was then sent out on loan. Twine was brought in for decent money after a prolific season at MK Dons, but couldn't cement a starting place. Obafemi has just been signed permanently for Burnley despite only being an impact sub during his initial loan. They signed Lyle Foster for £11 million in January, but he's only managed to score 1 goal from 15 games so far.

The real reason behind Kompany's success was the loan market. Harwood-Bellis, Maatsen, Beyer and Tella were key players.

Hopefully O'Shea is a success like Muric, Vitinho, Cullen, Zaoury and Benson.

The above is true, but McNally looked like a real player when on loan at Coventry, I'd love to see him in or around the first team next season.

An absolute bargain at that price.

Probably half what Omobamidele will go for this summer if he moves and a third of what Collins will go for if he moves.

You can see why Burnley are heading in the right direction under Kompany.

For me Beyer & Ekdal would start the first game of the season and Beyer is a very good player indeed who i think will stand out in the Prem . Will Dara have to bide his time not sure but we will soon find out .
BR  , you have a very good understanding when it comes to the Clarets i have to say Thumbs Up

I watch a lot of football and keep an eye on interesting teams/coaches. Kompany's Burnley are one of the best ever Championship winning teams. He got them playing some great stuff. It'll be interesting to see how he adapts to The PL.

Great move for a fine player and someone who has had to overcome serious adversity in the form of a few challenging injuries already in his career.  He is also someone who has made serious bursts of progression during his career. First loan, loan to League Two, first Championship season, first Premiership season etc. This move is tailor made to see him kick on again.

In fairness McNally was making a big step-up from L1 to a level he had no experience at (and it went extremely well for him) whereas O'Shea has had a season in the PL and has been a solid performer at Championship level along with international experience. They're not comparable situations.

Comparing 1 Irish CB’s situation with another Irish CB’s situation, what was I thinking. I should have focused on the attacker you mentioned instead.

Deal completed and signs a four year contract.

Manager Vincent Kompany added: "It’s great to welcome Dara to Burnley and we know he can play a big part in the progression of our football club. Strong at the back as well as confident moving forward, a leader with experience and knowledge of playing at the highest level.

"Dara will be a great addition to our squad and we can’t wait to start working with him.”

David Sneyd's article in the 42 yesterday. Don't know how close he'd be to players but if the comments about Kompany rating O'Shea as someone that could play for a top 6-8 team are accurate then that's high praise.

Especially when you consider he's often the forgotten man when talking about young Irish CBs. I'd also working with possibly the best CB to play in the PL is very appealing.

Sneyd had a very in depth piece with O'Shea and Molumby earlier in the season where he was in at the West Brom training centre with them. So he'd be a fairly good source of info and knowledge here I'd suspect.

O'Shea is probably the most underrated of the younger group of Irish players for me. Whether he can go to a top six team in time I don't know, but I expect him to have a long career in the Premier League (or an equivalent European league) if he can avoid serious injury. Captain material as well longer term, though we have a few good options for that role.

Who’s telling the truth here? I highly doubt Burnley were the only club interested in him. Whatever about how many clubs as mentioned in the Sneyd article.
