Maybe it isn’t a token selection. Maybe Mick and his team think Byrne is the better option.

As far as "similar" players, Crowley should be in ahead of Curtis, Judge, O'Dowda, Brady, McClean. That he didn't get a slot at a training camp is just baffling.

In what planet?

Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord are looking at Crowley. Confused Highly likely he’ll be at one of the large Dutch clubs this summer.
Are they? Really? Because they were supposed to be looking at Byrne too. I would be surprised.
I have seen little of either recently, so I don’t know who is better, but I doubt either was ever going to be close to the team for the Denmark game.
Although, if Crowley was as good as being made out on here he would be as good as Byrne used to be.

Yeah he didn't seem happy with his omission.

Also from that it appears that his paperwork hasn't gone through just yet meaning he wouldn't have been eligible anyway

Is Crowley now officially the new Andy Reid/Wes Hoolahan/Young Doherty?

He is the new Jack Byrne, now that Jack Byrne has been deemed not good enough because he plays in Ireland.

Makes sense.

And do we know yet who the new Dan Crowley is?

Potentially, with the right move, it could be Jack Byrne.

I would imagine that the way Mick looks at it is that he doesn't need 2 small attacking midfielders in his squad. He's already got Byrne (and perhaps you could include Judge in that too) so he see's Crowley as surplus to requirements for the time being. The unfortunate thing about that is that Crowley is probably the most deserving of a squad place based on this season's form.
We're decent enough..

Josh Cullen, roughly around the time he appears as a 63rd minute sub during West Ham's 3rd pre season game on a whistle stop tour of South Korea. After a run toward the box in the 71st minute, he gets on the end of a cross from Mick Antonio and hits a 3 yard square ball at Arnautovic, who taps it into the net beyond the despairing dive of the keeper. This is registered as 'an assist' - therefore he is immediately worthy of a place in Micks first 11.

He's at around stage 4 now, the above refers to stage 5, other later stages involve being on the bench in an injury crisis, playing in an early round of the Littlewoods Cup V Yeovil (and losing), suggestions that other clubs, bigger clubs, like say, Norwich and maybe Blackburn, who have better long term prospects than WHU (Gold & Sullivan are idiots, Pellegrini will get sack before end of season, he'd be better off going to Blackburn, glory days on the way back there, no doubt about it) - are looking at him.

Then ya have the whole Gareth Southgate looking/Roberto Martinez's cousin wants him to declare for Scotland thing, MICK MCCARTHY IS A STUBBORN IDIOT, how can we not pick this fella, should of (the 'of' was deliberate) capped him V Switzerland away, we would (of) likely have got the nil all draw regardless, WHY DID HE BRING ON KEVIN LONG INSTEAD ? Agent a ***t, oul fella is a greedy bollix, ah fcuk it lads, he's gone, forget about him.
