Did very well by all accounts in an unfamiliar central defensive role.

Won praise from the Yorkshire Evening Post for 'an exceptional debut' and was given 9/10, Leeds' highest rated player.

We have a very decent crop of young players coming through at the moment, perhaps no top class talents in the mould of a Keane or Duff, but lots of guys with the potential to be good footballers.
We're decent enough..

The way international football is at the moment that is good enough for me.

Liam Kelly...
Josh Cullen...
High hopes for Ronan Hale up top...
Potentially James Maddison...
Of the older lads, Eunan O'Kane entering good form.
Alan Judge still to come back, hopefully as good as ever.

Have seen Shaughnessy play in preseason and his appearances for Leeds this season and apart from the pen at Bolton he's not put a foot wrong .......he's a big unit but very comfortable on the ball

Should be in the starting line up tomorrow in the televised game at Sunderland, a good test for him

His brother, Joe, plays as a centre-half for St Johnstone. Made the SPFL team of the year last season.

Write-up on Conor in the Yorkshire Evening Post:

Shaughnessy’s emergence from nowhere

Well, not quite nowhere. Thomas Christiansen has been making use of him from the very start of pre-season but there was nothing to suggest that the 20-year-old would be knocking on the door of the first team so quickly.

There was nothing to suggest either that Shaughnessy would offer a capable fall-back in the centre of defence if Christiansen’s resources grew as thin as they have. He was a central midfielder during his time with Reading’s academy and signed for Leeds 12 months ago as padding for a development squad which was short on numbers and short on nous.

Having been released by Reading, Shaughnessy is reinventing himself as a centre-back and marked his full league against a very dangerous Fulham team with a performance which bordered on faultless. It’s funny how football works out.

Reports saying Leeds are not looking for another centre half now with the resurgence of Liam Cooper and the emergence of Conor Shaughnessy.
