Thought he played well, surprised he came off tbh McGinn was very poor kept giving ball away.

My stream was useless but he was playing well in what I was able to see. His set pieces were excellent.

On the winning side anyway, should retain his place I'd imagine.

didn’t see the first half, Was receiving the ball in space in the second half and didn’t do anything interesting with it. Just there beside Luiz who played it square to him and hourihane never did anything that threatened to get villa behind the defence. Ineffectual basically and was expecting him to be subbed.

Didn't see the game this evening but I find Hourihane in general seems to have no stamina imo.

He lasts 60 minutes on the field and anything past that he seems to tire early. I would hazard a guess in games he started for both Villa and Ireland, he was generally subbed not long after the hour mark.
Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

He tends to be subbed off first even though Mcginn who’s generally very consistent should have been hauled off tonight he was shocking.

Hourihane in a nutshell in games against bottom 10 opposition let’s say he’s effective as he can get on the ball and be tidy and his set pieces were the difference in a number of those games last year alone.
He doesn’t have the legs though and against let’s say the Top 6 or even Leicester Wolves Everton he tends to get completely runover when the opposition is of higher quality and Villa don’t have the ball he shouldn’t be anywhere near the pitch to be frank against that sort of opposition as he hasn’t the engine.

His set-pieces were very good in general. Villa really lack some guile in the middle of the pitch though. Their only tactic seemed to be to get as many crosses into the box as possible.

Goal and assist, played well. Looks a cert at this stage to start alongside McCarthy and Hendrick against Slovakia.

His set pieces have been frustratingly poor for Ireland bar that goal against Georgia.

He pops up with golas in these games or a few assists and shows he has a wand of a left boot etc and then becomes totally anonymous. Wish he could do it for Ireland but not sure he ever will.

It was a typical Hourihane performance, on the fringes by and large but he came up with a couple of important moments. Can we afford a passenger in midfield? That depends on whether he comes up with those important moments for us I suppose.

I think he'll be utilised for his set pieces alone. He's a decent lower end Premier League player who doesn't show up against the top teams and by in large goes missing in games. Personally I don't think we can afford to start both Hourihane & Hendrick and if we want to maintain possession, Jack Byrne is your man. Didn't look out of place against a bang in form Milan side who could be challenging for the title this season. But what do I know LOL
