Not his usual goal either, bullet header. I just wish he could offer more from general play, he can be very frustrating to watch week in week out. While there are signs of him improving under Smith, I find it hard to see him being in Mick's team. We don't have the luxury of playing a guy in CM because he might score a goal for us.

Well hendricks has played the last 20 games for us because he hit the crossbar against Sweden one time, atleast hourihane offers goals, and is good on set pieces.

I dont think hes a poor mans anyone. Holland was an out and out central midfielder. Hourihane is more in between. A goal scoring midfielder whos not really a central midfielder. Great left foot. Hes defo more talented than holland ever was if not as consistent.

I'm not sure about him being much more talented than Holland, he's a long way off having the same body of work behind that Matty has. He was a starter for us at a time when we had far better contenders than at present. True enough they are different types of players and have different roles, but Hourihane is largely anonymous through games. Yes, so has Hendrick in recent memory, but that just means neither should be a starter for us!

But possibly never will be successful as Holland. Why do you think he is more talented? A better goalscorer?

Where would we play Hourihane to get the most out of him? I am not convinced by him

That's how I see him too. Some of his passing his very poor and really drifts out of games.

I think the above poster is doing Matty Holland a disservice too.

As odd a question as it may be, but does Hourihane actually contribute anything else besides goals? Looks great when he's scoring, but is there much else there?

Asked myself this question a lot. He can strike a ball, no doubt there. I have never seen him contribute a lot in general play. He works at Villa as a kind of fulcrum that Grealish can play off, but without that kind of partner for Ireland he looks lost. He’s more reactive than proactive/creative.

Hes had quite a few assists. So apart from goals and assists he does nothing else. Is that not enough.

Ask Barnsley fans - they loved him. He's never shown the same kind of form at Villa though. He's still scored 7 goals and provided 9 assists this season, which isn't shabby at all. And also offers a significant threat from set-pieces.

I think Browne is similar enough in that regard. I haven't much hope of either of them doing it internationally.

Lots of goals and lots of assists, hardly something to turn your nose up at. I think he's reasonably technically accomplished and a hard worker too. He's a bit slow though, which at times does make him look pedestrian in general play.
We're decent enough..

Hope Mick gets the best out of him anyway the way Michael O’Neill has got his troops firing for the north. Browne would a be a great player for NI hopefully him and O’Dowda can reproduce their club form for us

Looks like he was playing high up behind the striker vs Wes Brom. Maybe a better position for him?
