markets over here are down across the board so far...(as is my mood)

 
One note of comfort. My county (pasco) went with McCain.

Glad I voted for Obama. The country did not need 'Insane McCain'.

The Electoral College's days are indeed in the past, when the country was designed with strong states and a week federal government. That all changed after the civil war when states rights were damaged beyond repair but it does for the most part work.  Plus it would take an amendment to the constitution to change.

Glad you voted Worm even if it was in protest.

Disappointed that Mcain didn't get in only to die as Palin would be prezident..now that would be fun..even bloody republicans were terriffied of that prospect

"the yank" may best be able to speak to the legalities, but my assumption is to allow a period of contestability. Several of the races at the state level also had provisions in the event of a tie to run a 'head to head in early December.
 
* I only learned enough about the constitution and civic history to  get me through the citizenship test.  However, I did study Obama's and McCain's tax plans in detail- hence the reason I voted for McCain in the end (because I dont think the man that gets up to work needs to carry the lazy fcuker that does'nt)
