The club has been transformed, won their first trophy ( County Antrim Shield ) since 1987 and are now challenging for the league. Crusaders have done well by qualifying regularly for Europe and managing their finances well. Richest of the lot remain Linfield, a club that has effectively been a state sponsored enterprise for decades.

This.

Although it may not last, Coleraine have done OK, partly due to Oran Kearney (best manager in the IL imo) and also due to European money, which has greatly helped those other clubs you mention.

I don't know how sustainable it all is long term, or if it is, whether we're going to see a situation whereby you have effectively two leagues within the Premiership: the Top Four (Five?) and the Also Rans, with the Championship out of sight completely.

Cliftonville have also benefited from European money and have a good structure. They are well managed and the team is being rebooted at the moment with some quality signings. Ballymena under David Jeffrey have also been punching above their weight. All of which has made for a competitive league that has been entertaining and provided good contests that have been hard to predict but ultimately I fear that big money prevails and the wealthier clubs will pull away to some extent.

Think he was looking to play as a striker. He was seemingly be used as a winger by the Glens.

Bar Linfield, the foundations of these clubs, with their spending, are built on sand. Couple of years with no Euro qualification or if the sugar daddies pull the pin, they are in real trouble. The guy at Larne seems in for the long haul however.

Not sure if the introduction of a third tier Euro comp will effect the financial rewards.

Poor game at Glentoran, lost to brilliant goal towards end but ball should have been cleared well before that. Not convinced by keeper, even though he saved penalty with last kick of the game. Poorest performance of 2021. Jaysus, that boy Plum for Glens is woeful, a pound shop Conor Sammon.

I see Coffey was on the bench against Warrenpoint. Did he have a poor game against the Glens or was it a tactical decision.

Curran seems on a bit of form. Thought he had plenty of talent the year he had with Harps

Get in, Rory Hale. 1-0, 60th minute. Reds a lot better in second half. Terrible conditions.

You are a brave man going into that bar. LOL 1-1 tonight, hit by another late equaliser. Awful conditions tbf. Thought defence was very good, particularly Bagnall, who was excellent. But 2 points dropped. Ah well...

Sad to hear of death of Reds and Ireland fanatic Kenny Murdock. Ran into him few times at Republic away games, he owned the big Cliftonville tricolour seen at many a foreign stadium, and there was famous picture of him in tears after 2016 1-0 won against Italy in Lille. RIP

So you'll not be wanting one of these for your birthday, then? Wink

Anyhow, it's a few years since I was last there, but then at least it was pretty good for a provincial ground: two new seated and covered stands (one for away fans), plus they'd done away with the stock car circuit.

Of course, plans to complete the rebuild of the ground by replacing the old main stand and putting a small terrace behind the other end were overtaken by (ahem) "circumstances" - let's not go there! LOL

But still, I thought it compared pretty well with stadia of similar-sized clubs:
