Good piece on Cliff Byrne in this weeks Irish Post topical given that he was in the Oldham team that beat Liverppol in the FA cup last week.

It talks about when Byrne was captain of Ireland under 19s which narrowly failed to qualify for the under 19 Euros in the Czech Republic. Cliff got the entire squad a drink which cost him the equivalent of £6 as Andy Reid pointed out !

Byrne " Personally when I step onto a football pitch I believe I am as good as anyone. I know people reading this will say Cliff you are talking sh*tE but while I know I am not a technically gifted footballer I also know I'm not scared of anyone. "

I remember watching Cliffy play for SAFC Youths and reserves and he looked a great prospect at the time. Other Irish team mates he had going through the ranks with him then were Brendan McGill Mark Rossister Stephen Capper Thomas Butler etc.
