Has anyone found it tough getting used to new setups with christmas.  I.e. going to a different house and different dinners etc.

Like most irish lads I thought My Mams dinners were the business so will be hard to beat them.

Ive never had Christmas dinner with my missus. We both go to our own mams for dinner. Most folk can’t believe it but it suits us to do it this way. About 22 years nowLOL

That's mad!

Where do the kids go?
I took them when they were small. Now they choose themselves. Normally wherever they think they will collect the most cash!

The potato is a wonderful thing. If a carvery has mash, roast potatoes, croquettes and chips I'm loading up on them all.

Chips with stuffing and gravy are lovely. My go-to during lockdown was Arcadia/Kiltipper take away, half portion turkey, with stuffing and chips instead of mash for a tenner. Sometimes add the take away pint for 4.50

Its important what you do with your mash. I think too often people boil the potatoes, and then add butter and that's it. Key thing is, during the roasting of the turkey, you should roast garlic cloves in tine foil alongside it (45 mins is fine), and after steaming the peeled potatoes add cream and butter, and squeeze the roasted garlic into the pot, before mashing.

My ma makes these things she calls bacon rolls.

Big lump of home made sausage stuffing wrapped in bacon and cooked in the oven.
f**kin fantastic.

I've not been home to my ma's for a good few years at xmas. They've come to ours or we go to the mrs' grandads'. He's 90 and still does the dinner.
