Rotherham United have signed Brentford winger Chiedozie Ogbene on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee. Ogbene, 22, joined the Bees in January 2018 after spells with Cork City and Limerick in the Republic of Ireland. However, he failed to make a first-team start for the Championship club and spent the first half of last season on loan at League Two side Exeter. |

Hopefully he gets a run of games there and finds form. A serious talent.

Hasn’t he come out and said the Eire isn’t his first choice? Granted he hasn’t been playing so not in a position to turn down a NT call up, but he’s not really close to our first team and if he was he’d take a Nigeria call up anyway.

Starting to really come through now with Rotherham. Got his first goal this week after some impressive performances either side of Christmas.
It will be decision time soon..

He’s been very productive for Rotherham in terms of assists and goals. Encouraging how he’s been able to step up and push his way into the team. Good timing for him as we still lack options on the right of attack, although at this stage he’s probably at the same level as Harness at Portsmouth. One to watch for us and Nigeria at this stage I suppose

I would say he is more likely to be playing with Nemo in a few years than Ireland. If he manages to reach the level of international he will likely declare for Nigeria.

I asked a genuine question. Did you mean he'll have a decision whether to represent Ireland or Nigeria at International level soon? He'd fallen off the radar a bit recently, would be surprised if he was to get a callup anytime soon

Massive talent. Would live to see him capped if he keeps progressing over the next year.

hasn’t he mentioned that Ireland is his second choice? Don’t see him coming here or Kenny capping him.

You know, I’m not sure about Kenny not capping him. Kenny talks a lot about balance in the squad and he likes a winger who can take full backs out of the game by carrying the ball at pace - he saw that ability in Elbouzedi when few others did. If Ogbene provides something to the overall mix, he might get pulled in.

Back in the Championship next year along with Trevor Clarke at Rotherham. Jordan Shipley will also make the step up with Coventry. All 3 still young enough to have lengthy international careers ahead them if they impress at that level.

I always liked the look of Ogbene in the LOI. He was really direct, had a trick and was a powerful runner. Great characteristics for a winger. I was hoping he would have kicked on a bit more so far. I don't know if he is ever going to be international quality but good luck to him.

He does seem inconsistent alright, but the attributes you've listed off are the type that it can always be useful to have as an option off the bench for a national side... Forgot to mention Jake Cooper and Joshua Kayode who are also with Rotherham, both significantly less likely to see playing time next year in any case.
