Chelsea 'frustrated' by Barcelona business

Barcelona are set to beat Chelsea to the signing of Jules Koundé after agreeing a €50m fee with Sevilla for the France defender.

Chelsea, who shortlisted the RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, Atlético Madrid’s José María Giménez, Inter Milan's Milan Skriniar and Villarreal’s Pau Torres at the start of the summer, are frustrated with Barcelona's behaviour, according to The Guardian.

They could respond by blocking Xavi’s attempts to sign Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, a report claims.

Funny thing is, I read somewhere that in US sport, it would be considered unthinkable to sack a coach so soon after he had won the Superbowl or World Series etc i.e. you get a couple of years grace to get it right again.

Who would be a manager today though. Yes you get piles of money but with the stress and the short time you get its getting to be impossible almost. Your never going to get legendary status like coaches of the past again. Win the Champions League now its like so what your sacked anyway. On yer bike son. Possibly Pep is the only manager at the minute who has the ultimate job. Other than that anyone is sackable.

Oh I agree, but you'd imagine Boehly might still have been inclined to give him until, say, the January window, or at least the World Cup break?

The other thing may be that TT is long known for NOT wanting to get involved in transfers - he strongly prefers just to concentrate on coaching.

But with Boehly having sacked all of Abram's recruitment people, he apparently roped TT in to advise on transfers. Which could mean that after spending £300m on a pile of crap, Boehly's ego wont allow him to admit his own naivety etc, so he has to blame someone else.

He wouldn't be the first billionaire to act like that.

Dream job is right. City's bench is probably worth more than the first teams lads like Allegri and Pioli can put out. Ancelotti has to bring HAZARD on for Benzema but he'll make it work. Pep gets to work unfettered by things such as FFP and when he fails to win the CL again, they'll just give him another 200m to buy the CL.

I'd say Klopp is pretty much unsackable - if nothing else, Pool's fans are 100% behind him.

While I'd be very surprised if Brentford sacked Thomas Frank, even if they got relegated.

But you're right, aside from those three, it's a ridiculously precarious job, even more so as you go down the divisions, with the Championship being an absolute nightmare - average tenure now something like 9 months?.

To be safe you either need to be constantly challenging and winning, or for other clubs ensuring mid table mediocrity as early as possible. Otherwise you’re not winning titles or flirting with relegation, and shaking up the manager seems to be the first port of call for most clubs.

This has undoubtedly been to the benefit of managers with an existing reputation, as there are always jobs out there for them. Especially when it was that small set of managers that are indirectly linked by the short spells they had at the same clubs where they were digging teams out of relegation dogfights.

had it been another year where Arsenal, Spurs and United were so poor that CFC just had to be better than them to make top 4, he may have got longer

With those 3 on the rise and with shocking performances against Leeds & Southampton, team no aggression, cleansheets/solid defense that defined the champions league win no longer there and no penetration up front, I can see why they pulled the trigger, they just shelled out 3.5 billion and not making top four is really not an option and would put them back 3/4 years

Chelsea have looked poor for a while now, this was inevitable but didn’t think it would quite so soon. They’ve made the right decision here as they were only going to get worse under Tuchel. Hope he gets another PL job at some point he’s good to have around the league.

I would say you might be right if Boehly was the owner when Tuchel won the CL with Chelsea. 

Whoever replaces Tuchel needs to figure out their Kante-problem. When he's fit, they're as good as anyone. But more and more often, he's out. Chelsea performance v Spurs was Kante running the show, but he's been injured since and look at the results and more importantly, the performances.
