I wasn’t talking about net spend though
Chelsea’s outlay in the summer was £220m on bringing in 6 first team players to the squad I know Lampard didn’t physically spend the money but since when was that a factor? I don’t think he was beating down the boardroom door pleading with them not to sign anyone He did well last year after not being allowed to sign anyone and losing their best player, and has done badly for the first half of this season after a massive spend Now how’s Terri gonna twist this into a short thesis Edited by Roberto Baggio - 25 Jan 2021 at 7:30pm |

Net spend is irrelevant. Gross spend is indicative of the players you purchased. If they are offset by deadwood, or players that other teams might be foolish enough to part with their cash over, than so be it. In fact, low spend is not always a bad thing either.

Of course you weren't talking about net spend - to do so would tear the arse out of your thesis! As for the "first half of this season", as I noted earlier, CFC were actually top of the PL on 05 December, so we're talking about two months (or the blink of an eye for Stephen Kenny )

Nothing brings out the latent bigotry quite like a foreign manager replacing an English one at an English club. Especially someone with the reputation of Frank Lampard. |

Or maybe just someone sticking up for his nephew? Anyhow, it remains to be seen how well TT does at the Bridge. He could turn out to be another Mourinho/Ancelotti/Conti. Or he could be another AVB/Grant/Scolari. Or with his record to date, he might even be another Sarri i.e. come in, do a good job, then take the hump with something and bugger off again.

Harks back to Paul Merson and Phil Thompson frothing at the mouth when Marco Silva got the Hull job at the expense of an Englishman. Of course they have no problem with virtually every EPL team being bought, owned, and enriched by people from different continents. The EPL is the highest profile league in the world precisely because of people like Roman Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour and their investment in foreign managers and players. People like Redknapp, Merson and Thompson all benefit from this by extension, IDK why they complain so much. If they had it their way, the EPL would still be languishing behind Serie A and La Liga.

Nearly all the remaining English coaches in the Premier League are congregating in or near the relegation zone.

1. Neither Merson nor Thompson is Redknapp, so unless Redknapp made similar comments about Silva, he cannot be judged by their comments; 2. Nor was it their nephew who was sacked by Hull; 3. Lampard's record is/was arguably good enough to merit more time. But apart from that yeah, it was nothing only "pure bigotry" from 'Arry

True, and yet there are currently more English/UK coaches in the PL than there has been for some time. Anyhow, there are more big/wealthy clubs in England than any other country, meaning more of them can pay more than clubs in other countries to cherry-pick the very best two or three from each country. And it works both ways. I read somewhere the other day that Italy (esp) is very reluctant to appoint non-Italian managers, despite the top Italians often managing outside the country (eg Ancelotti). Which is why there are currently 17 Italian Head Coaches (of 20) in Serie A. Nor has the Italian FA ever appointed a non-Italian to manage their NT. Yet English football has a reputation for being Xenophobic in a way that is rarely levelled at Italy.

Massive American mafia aficionado here. LOL at how this is inspired by real life La Cosa Nostra organisation charts down to the minutest detail. The Canary is the "front boss". Kind of like Fat Tony Salerno of the Genovese family who went down for the real boss Vincent Gigante in the famous commission case back in the eighties. Love these small touches classic Simpsons used to have.
