From Popbitch years ago;

At a golf club do, Sean Connery was asked “Oi, Connery! What was your best celebrity shag?”

Connery ignored them.  But returned to their table a few minutes later to utter the immortal words:-

“Petula Clark, up the arse, 1965”

LOL

I have heard that story 1963 1966, in a bar in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London and a golf club.

One of the first times I really became aware of Robert Fisk was when he was debating Alan Dershowitz on the evening of 9/11

It was on Eamon Dunphy's Last Word programme on Today FM

It was a particularly memorable exchange and Fisk made Dershowitz lose the plot completely simply by telling the truth about the US's involvement in the Middle East over the previous number of decades

Dershowitz made a fool of himself, shouted down the telephone and then hung up mid segment

I read most of The Great War For Civilisation around 10 years ago but never got around to the stuff on Algeria

He was an old school foreign correspondent who believed in doing his own reporting

genuinely gutted over this.  Most of the time
Celebrity deaths do not impact me but Fisk was a brilliant brilliant journalist and as brave as a lion. A great journalist and a great writer which is not common.

Haven’t felt like this in relation to a celebrity death since Prince.

May he Rest In Peace.   74 is too young.

A terrible loss. Deeply saddening. Robert Fisk was an outstanding journalist. Fearless and principled. One of the last of a dying breed.

Makes you genuinely concerned for the future. There are very few journalists coming through of commensurate standard up to replacing the likes of Fisk.

Must be terrifying for Gilesy and other players from that era to see so many of their mates suffering from Alzheimers

Sean Connery was also suffering from Dementia at his time of passing
And now it's been announced that Bobby Charlton is suffer from it as well
