I dont doubt that you couldnt do it any cheaper but to me it just proves that this trip is not viable over land.

Do you realise your charging €1250 for a 2 week camping holiday that involves 2 full days of driving to get there? This is priceless.

Couldnt pay me 1250 quid to do that. You could get flights to Poland and accomodation in those campsites for a lot less than that. Anyone travelling by bus over land needs their head examined.

completely agree. If they were chagring €300 students maybe tempted. I once did a 15 hour bus journey in S.America and you couldn't pay me to do it again. Absolute torture. I rather stick pins in my eyes........

Return flights to Posnan are around 500 quid with Ryanair at the moment. 12 nights in a campsite is around 600 quid. Thats still 150 quid cheaper than this offer. Id suggest that you shouldnt bother with this offer as i cant see anyone with 1250 quid to spend on travel and accomodation wasting 4 days of their holiday on Tavel alone

Incidentally, you could probably go over land by train for about €200 each way, if you were interested. Dublin to London, €45 (sail-rail), a night in London €30 (hostel), London to Cologne for €69 (booked via db.de, see www.seat61.com), then Cologne to Poznan (overnight in a couchette, basically sleeping on a bench/sofa with a pillow, rather than a chair) for €59. The same back would make it €400 before accommodation. 12 nights in the campsites on booking.com costs about €650 for two sharing, so €325 each..... all in all, if you want to go overland and stay in the campsites, it would cost you about €725, not counting the additional cost of the trains from Poznan to Gdansk (probably about €40). So you could do it much, much cheaper yourself if you wanted.
Admittedly, at lot of this needs to be booked in advance (booking opens 92 days beforehand). In fact, you could (with some very, very tight transfer times) go from Dublin to Berlin in under 24 hours, then on to Poznan. Dublin to London €51 (fast ferry makes the price difference) 08:45 via Holyhead and Chester, into London at 15:38, 14 minutes to get from Euston to St. Pancras (run) before Eurostar check in closes at 15:22 (£39 to Paris if booked far enough in advance), leave at 16:22, Paris at 19:47, run to Gare de l'est (10 minutes walking, so 18 minutes should just about be enough) for the 20:05 overnight train to Berlin (booked in advance, a couchette is €59), get to Berlin at 08:26 then get the morning train to Poznan at 09:40 for €29, again booked in advance. Okay, it's a bit more hassle, but cheaper than €1,250! You can just about do the same coming back. Poznan to Cologne, €59, leaving 21:21 arriving at 06:14, Cologne to Brussels 09:35 and Brussels 10:56 to London St. Pancras 11:57 for €69, London Euston 12:10 (you'd need to run again) to Chester 14:12, Chester 14:23 to Holyhead 16:15, Holyhead 17:15 to Dublin 19:15 £43. Again, under €200 if booked in advance. You'd just have to hope all the trains were on time. Edited by SuperDave84 - 27 Feb 2012 at 1:55pm |
