On Off the Ball, they mentioned that O'Neill said he has never seen him play.

However, Keane's seen him play a few times for Cork City.

When he was doing that Today FM show with Keane a couple of months ago he more or less ruled out ever calling up a LOI player as they dont have the experience on the big stage.

It would make you wonder...

At least we know that he isnt as stubborn as the previous manager

Lenihan is not a LOI player though? and in one way it defies logic to be calling him up too, especially when the manager has never seen him play.

The reality is that no LOI players are good enough.

Well hes not an EPL player anyway considering he has yet to make a matchday squad!

Everything defies logic with this. Reminds me of when Trap called up Clifford every now and then - dont think he had seen him before he was called up from the 21s

I'd have thought Wilson would go to RB and Delaney would play with O'Shea in the centre?

Well these so called players must be fooling the UK and European scouting network so.

I don't rate Ward myself but to suggest that there is a LOI left back better than Ward is delusional.

Bermingham (Pats) would be better than Ward, at least going forward.
Simon Madden is a better full-back than Lenihan imo. Good luck to him anyway, a good experience for the lad.

Correct me if I'm wrong but has he ever played there?

Heavily reliant on Meyler here.

Dont understand this at all. He wasnt even taught about while playing for cork but now after one match for hull reserves he is in the senior squad. He wasnt even deemed good enough for the u21 squad. Surely if o neill was calling up a replacement for coleman it should of been doherty or even long who has played twice for reading and is a constantly in the match day squad. Anyways good luck to him.

Yes he was, he was our best player by a mile. The Dublin media chose to ignore us, however.

On Lenihan, the selection makes sense for the Gibralter, as it shouldn't be a huge test for him if he is called upon. This guy has everything. He also has a very similar style to Coleman and can really defend. At the very least he is as quick as Coleman too.

I don't think he's as quick as Coleman in fairness.

But he is a more rounded player than Coleman when he left Sligo.

Yeah, he played there for Stoke regularly the season before last. Was as good there as he was at left back from what I saw and heard

I can't recall a time either to be fair, but he's a right footer who can play LB so surely he is capable of making the switch across?

I'd be in agreement with Dunne23 here - a back four of:

Wilson - O'Shea - Delaney - Ward

Is the best we can put out I reckon. The main issue is that O'Neill doesn't seem to rate Delaney at all unfortunately.

Wilson is left footed. Very good with both but predominantly left
