One player that caught the crowd's eyes in the Gateshead success was highly-rated Irish starlet Brian Lenihan, who was signed from Cork City by Steve Bruce near deadline day.

Pennock was pleased with the 20-year-old's Tigers debut, but realises he's yet to reach his full potential.

"To be fair to Brian, it was his first game for a very long time," added Pennock.

"We watched him a number of times over in Ireland and you saw against Gateshead how he gets balls in good positions.

"He carries the ball well and gets forward a lot. He's certainly one to look out for."

I'd love to know how O'Neill came to the conclusion that he should be called into the squad ahead of others?

It was far across the sea,
When the devil got a hold of me,
He wouldn't set me free,
So he kept me soul for ransom.

MON is showing some signs that he is out of his depth or lost his mind.

Just frustration statement really.
But huge squads with no real cover for positions,Given back, unable to break down Gerogia yet Hoolahan is left in bench.
Then weird call today with Lenihan when he has been ignored for months while friendly squads where Massive.

To be fair Keane has watched the lad a good bit before his move to Hull but I was under the impression it was with a view for him signing for Villa. Now if he thought he wasn't good enough for Villa how has he come to the conclusion that he is good enough for a place in the squad to face the World Champions. Don't get me wrong Brian is a great lad with a great attitude and is definitely one to watch...
time is the stuff that life is made of, don't waste it.

Look at it a different way. We are short at a position, don't really have any obvious options out there so the senior manager calls somebody up from the 21s. Happens with plenty of other countries.

Well Doherty is the obvious option

Would have Foley ahead of Doherty due to experience but I have seen little of Blackpool this season. Doherty as a long way to improve.
Lenihan clearly has quality but this does seem bizarre. Still, no harm to give him a run against the Rock monkeys
