I can't see UEFA doing the same for the FAI, especially when there are a dozen other suitable stadia already available in England alone.
While more generally, in return for awarding tournament finals to governments, who benefit from the prestige and tourism etc, FIFA/UEFA expect that those governments will invest in new or modernised stadia which will leave a legacy for football for years to come - see eg the fine stadia they have in Poland and Ukraine..
Conversely, UEFA don't give a stuff about helping other sports like GAA.
While in the same vein, even disregarding that temporary stand for WC2018, the overall development still left Ekaterinberg with a 23k stadium which was bigger - and better - than they actually needed, post-Finals:

2 stadiums in Russia 2018 had temporary stands, as did incomplete stadiums in Brazil 2014.
Other stadiums in South Africa 2010 and Qatar 2022 have been built modular to reduce capacities after the tournaments or remove them completely. Thats including one made up entirely of shipping containers and scaffolding!
As for UEFA, they've allowed temporary stands and seating in tournaments already as well some venues being modular constructed expanded.
Poland 2012 was a bit of an exception where they had 4 new stadiums rebuilt.
Austria/Switzerland 2008 had low capacity stadiums temporary expanded, as did Portugal in 2004 and Netherlands/Belgium in 2000.
Pairc Ui Chaoimh doesn't even need a temporary stand or expansion. They'd easily get away installing bucket seating on terraces as I already mentioned they do regularly across Europe for tournaments and Internationals.

Bucket seats haven't been used in tournaments in decades - Not a hope they would be allowed again. Hospitality would need to be included in the stadium as it currently doesn't have anything suitable. And the media facilities are not just containers outside. As mentioned above, for PuC to get up to standard would need a partial rebuild. |
They're used every year across Europe in UEFA European club competitions as well as Internationals.
Portugal and Gibraltar use the Estadio Algarve for Internationals both friendlies and qualifiers, they've 2 massive temporary stands of bucket seats behind each goal and it was used in Euro 2004 finals.
Germany use a number of grounds around Germany that use temporary seating installations for European games and Internationals. They used said stadiums for the 2006 World Cup finals.
Theres dozen more examples.
There was a lot of exceptions made for smaller countries hosting Euros 2000, 2004 and 2008.

Why did the government ever allow the Gah to waste millions of euro on that ground down in cork to a spec that meant it was obsolete before it was even completed?

If South Africa, Russia and Qatar were going to be able to host a tournament and justify the bribes which secured them, (all FIFA by the way), then they necessitated making exceptions.
Whereas England could host the entire event themselves right now.
So why would UEFA make an exception for Cork, and for the benefit of GAA, when there are any number of suitable football stadia already in existence?
And that's before you consider the other obstacles raised by Borussia.

Bucket seats put in where terraces exist are not allowed any more by UEFA or FIFA - We had to get an exception for our last games in the old Lansdowne. What is in the Estadio Algarve are temporary stands that exist in space where terracing is not underneath. They are full structures. And regarding Germany, there are no temporary structures - They are all permanent "safe seats" whereby the are spaces to stand for domestic games and then at the flick of a switch or the turn of a key they become seats for European games. That has been the case for over 20 years.

It wasn't that they were banned or not allowed, it was that they were supposed to be a temporary measure until permanent seating was installed / new stadium built and they weren't happy with the FAI kicking the bucket down the road as long as they did.
Sure they were allowed use them after that in Croke Park on the Hill for the 3/4 years we were there when the Aviva was being redeveloped and no doubt they'll actually be using them there again for this bid.
As for Germany, not all grounds have safe standing seats on the terraces. I know Dortmunds and Colognes dont I've been to both.

Bid dossier formally submitted for this today. List of possible stadiums now down to these 14, with 10 to be used at the finals.
1. Birmingham Villa Park 2. Liverpool Everton Stadium 3. London London Stadium 4. London Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 5. London Wembley Stadium 6. Manchester City of Manchester Stadium 7. Newcastle St James' Park 8. Sunderland Stadium of Light 9. Trafford Old Trafford 10. Dublin Dublin Arena 11. Dublin Croke Park 12. Belfast Casement Park Stadium 13. Glasgow Hampden Park 14. Cardiff National Stadium of Wales Likely that the four to drop off will be Casement, Sunderland, one of the two in Manchester and one of the three in London (probably London Stadium). That would leave six in England, two in Ireland, one in Scotland and one in Wales. Which would hopefully be enough for us to be given an automatic qualification place along with England.

YTM had it posted. Interesting that 14 named but 10 will be used. When would the final list need to be confirmed. If they can guarantee Casement will be built they might knock Croke Park off to have Belfast included.

considering our playoff history, a play off among hosts who haven’t qualified would make sense ??

Someone corrected me on twitter yesterday that you cant have more than one stadium in a city?
Id say he was sour when i told him Thomond and the Pairc in cork are falling a few thousand short.
30k is the minimum, How is Belfast even on the list?

The new Casement is meant to be 35K if it ever gets built I think

Was that thing about proximity etc not rolled out as a convenient excuse for the outcome of the Euro 2008 bid?

One very real scenario I could see is they just go with English stadia and then each other FA supporting the bid gets 1 each.
If Belfast stadium was already built then Croker probably wouldn't be on the list. Wonder would they go with Belfast (if built) otherwise Croke Park?
I do see it that we have a good chance of getting a potential second spot either way because basically it will be two governments supporting the bid and makes sense that England get the UK's place but then I assume they want to offer us up a reward for also sponsoring the bid and upgrading the infrastructure.

I think they used two stadiums in one city as an excuse against the 2008 bid from us and Scotland as many of our stadiums put forward were in Dublin and Glasgow. But it would seem that stance has shifted

2 per city.
30k is correct, Belfast have put forward Casement which will be a brand new 35k all seater.

Qatar kind of puts the two stadiums in the one city to bed. Granted it's a Euros and not a World Cup but still!
