Just occured to me to ask, at times such as these, End of Oneill/Trap eras, does it annoy people or just make them sentimental about times of old

We’ve just sold 24000 season tickets at one of our lowest ever points. There is no bandwagon at the moment, but we are a very well supported international team.

The demand and potential for live football in Ireland is huge. When things are going well there is only one team in Ireland that the public really gets behind, and they don’t sing Ireland’s Call.

I’m thinking it’s because we don’t have many players at top clubs anymore. Since most of our players have tended to be in the championship for the past decade or so, most people probably don’t see them play until the international windows.

Recently we’ve had:
Coleman -Everton (not been great lately I know)
Doherty - Tottenham
Kelleher - Liverpool
Ferguson - Brighton
Duffy - Brighton
McCarthy - Everton
Hendrick - Newcastle

Arguably Celtic could be included.

From around 2002:
Keane - Tottenham/Milan/Liverpool
Duff - Chelsea/Newcastle
Dunne - Man City
Given - Newcastle/Man City
Keane - Man Utd
Finnan - Liverpool
O’Shea - Man Utd
Gibson - Man Utd
Miller - Man Utd
Kilbane - Everton
Ireland - Man City
McAteer - Liverpool
Staunton - Liverpool
McGeady - Everton
O’Brien - Newcastle
Quinn - Arsenal/Man City
A Reid - Tottenham

I know there’s context around some of these teams and players and others could have been included(probably forgetting some too). But when you don’t have players at those top clubs, youd think it has to affect the buzz around the national team.

We need a new star to get behind. Hopefully that's Evan Ferguson.

Bale was able to turn a rugby fanatical country into one who become invested in the national football team.

Welsh interest in rugby is overstated IMO.

Exactly, I doubt there's many coutries in Europe sell more ST's, definitely on a "per head of population basis". Most rounds of fixtures, you look at attendances the next day and there's only about 7/8 contries that get more than us

Just check out the attendances for matches around Europe during international week. Ireland gets crazy good numbers against complete Mickeyarse teams never mind pot 1 teams.

That's the sad thing. You have a massive support inspite of how poorly run soccer is in this country.
