Dave what about my idea of just saying one person is living in my apartment. Have they anyway of proving otherwise?

Dunno. Depends on what was registered when your tenancy was registered. If a PPS number has been registered there for anyone else, they could possibly find out.

If they find out there are two of you, it could cause trouble.

I wouldn't be recommending it, anyway.

Yeah - they come to your apartment at night and cup their ear to your door. If they hear you getting pumped out of it by someone then they turn off the pumps - simples. Big smile

Its going to be very hard for them to monitor people in aprtments. Sure you could just say they have moved out etc if anyone came asking about a second pps number.

I actually didn't know there was a choice here..... can I choose the same opt-out clause for the Electricity, Gas? Both are utilities that cost a lot of money to arrive in your home.... so what's the difference with the water?....
Seriously though if we are going to have the choice of opting in or out of bills then happy days!

I think there is a problem though - while you are capped at a higher level (initially) if there are two people in a dwelling and will have to pay more, if you are metered, once you go over your allowance, you will be charged for the water you use. Obviously bills are capped for the first nine months dependent on how many people there are living in a dwelling but once the capping ends (after nine months) and once meters are installed, it will make more sense to let them know there are two people there, afaik.

I haven't actually researched the allowances side of things that much but I think that is right.

Also, if they find out you were dishonest, I'd imagine they'll screw you.

Actually, I just checked - Irish Water will assume that one person alone will use 66,000 litres a year. For each additional person, they will assume another 21,000 litres per year, in their charges.

However, if you register with Irish Water, they allow 30,000 litres per household before charges start. They will allow an additional 21,000 litres per child, if there are children. That means a house with one adult and one child would be allowed use 51,000 litres per year before they would be charged at all.

That said, if there is another adult there, assumed consumption will increase. If there is no meter, they will assume usage of 87,000 litres, allow 30,000 litres and charge for 57,000 litres. The charge is €2.44 per 1,000 litres, incidentally.

Basically, the more adults at an address, the higher the charges, but the more children, the greater your allowance. The system is set up in such a way that children should be free (as in, each child should result in the use of an extra 21,000 litres per year and each child is given a 21,000 litre allowance).

I thought I heard that apartments will never be metered and will always be on a fix charge?

3 adults + 1 child is €380.64 I am thinking of only paying 2A+1Ch which is €278.16 the third adult (19) is in College do ye reckon this is feasable, I believe once you pay or give the hoors something they wont be checking up or annoying you.

My meter is in 11 months at this stage
Going by the reading, estimated cost per year is less than 50notes for me

Take into account, a likely decrease in paye tax in the budget it shouldnt cost me a thing next year

Forgot about the apartments thing. That may change but I suppose at the minute it looks like they won't be metered. That may change with new apartment blocks I suppose.

I can never advise anyone to break the law. If you want to do it yourself, on your own head be it.

AFAIK they will never be metered

Technically you can leave all the taps running 24/7,352 days a year and it wont cost you a cent over

Regarding declaring 1 person in there, when theres 2 - your landlord may have already sent details to the PRTB. Think they are linking all that info together
Then again he might not of bothered with it at all!

Plus potential rebates if you are metered and use less.

Plus the 30,000 litres annual allowance for a single person.

You won't find better water coming out of a tap anywhere else in the world and the treatment of that water costs a fortune . Still ignorant thicks on Joe Duffy think that having free quality treated water is their "right" . Get off your lazy fat holes and get a job and give up hassling people doing theirs.
