Simple question, since most of ye are understandably angry about the whole thing thought it would be worth asking.

If any of you remember registering for the LGT you will recall that in the payments menu one of the options was Water Charges. Methinks they'll go after you for Water Charges in the same way the LGT operates.

Are we not currently taxed for this through motor tax?

If my motor tax is reduced I'll consider paying it, otherwise not a hope. A line in the sand has to be drawn at some point...

You can use a bucket of water to do so.

Lads they forked out €85m in consultancy fees. Do you not think they will be happy to spend money taking any non payers to court. Bit late now saying we won't pay. The only crowd in this country(not involved in one of the big unions) who mobilised and got concessions was the elderly. That says alot about us.
I am as guilty as the next man. I will moan about it here but not in a way that might make a difference. We have a lack of leadership and to be honest we're not the best sheep either!
I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.

And department of finance will spend an extra €5 million alone on consultancy fees this year.

Eh, how the hell are you gonna avoid paying it lads?   Notwithstanding the ridiculous consultancy fees, it's done and dusted.  We made alot of noise about the Property Tax but it hasn't turned out as painful as we thought and there has been huge compliance on it as once Revenue got involved it was game over.

I'm anything but happy about another charge, but pay it we must.

I'm guessing he means that because motor tax is collected by county councils rather than national government that the money is used for various things by the council.

Water tax wouldn't be that bad if income tax came down.

Strangely enough having trouble finding any conclusive link meself too...

All I can find out it is this unreferenced quote from the Wikipedia page on 'Water Supply & Sanitation in the Republic of Ireland':

"On 19 December 1996, on the eve of general elections, the Minister for the Environment Brendan Howlin from the Labour Party of the Rainbow Government of Fine GaelLabour PartyDemocratic Left announced that the water charge was going to be replaced by a new system in which motor tax collected in each area would be the source for local council funding."

Irish Water staff to be paid a bonus when the rest / most of us have endured pay cuts ??. PAC QandA sessions are revealing when you hear the attitude of senior civil servants and irish water reps - they think they are above being questioned . Then there is the legal and financial firms who have been employed to work on the project - same gang who were involvede in the banks debacle ffs .
Shamrock Rovers - lovin the buzz .
