you sure it needs to be replaced? Reconditioning an option? Some makes are renowned for gearbox trouble so plenty of places around are able to fix the issues.

Just thinking worst case scenario. Shes in with the mechanic at the minute

Reconditioning it will cost a lot more than €250 but you know you are getting a 100% box back, unlike taking the chance with an unknown from a breakers. Gearboxes in the likes of GM cars (Opel etc) were weak and this is known so plenty offer fixes. Hopefully yours will be quick fix.

I should’ve said I was a mechanic, I don’t nixer and struggle to force myself to work on my own car.

Buying a second hand one from the scrap yard is a gamble. As Sausy says you can get em reconditioned, it’ll include fitting in the reconditioning price. Some are around €500 but depending on make and model you could be well into 4figures. Any automatics will be around that price

Any recommendation for a reliable car parts site either here or across the puddle? I know Micks Garage, but Id assume there is cheaper out there.

eBay is actually quite good, a lot of the time you’re buying direct from the supplier in the UK. Same rules apply when buying anything on eBay

get the OEM part number and just google that, should bring up plenty of sites selling the part. What did you break this time?
