Now I'm looking at a Mitsubishi Lancer or Ford Ecosport Zetec.
Anyone have any experience with these?

Lancer is probably the single most bulletproof car you can buy reliability wise- worked for Mitsubishi for 7 years and the only thing I ever saw go in a Lancer was an oxygen sensor worth about € 200. Not exactly an exciting car to look at or drive, but if you want something that will likely never leave you down over the course of a few years, you shouldn't go far wrong with one of these. There's a reason new ones have a 8 year warranty from new. Service history etc important if buying 2nd hand, as it would be for any car.

Edit; Know feck all about the Ford Ecosport, can't help ya there.

Ya buying brand new??
Generally you can’t go far wrong with any new car these days, the ecosport is a strange one tho, the market that it’s aimed at is weakening so I’d be wary of resale value on it 3/4 years time

My previous car was 20 years old so I plan on getting my monies worth.
Not brand new but around the 2015 mark.

When I'm driving I'm noticing more models of cars but I don't think i've seen an Eco sport. Wonder if that's a sign.

It’s most certainly a sign, small market for em now, will be even smaller come time when you’re selling it/trading it in.

07 Ford Focus - 1.6 petrol.

The engine management light came on - driving feels like its going to cut out. Misfiring might be a better way to describe it.
Starting the car and driving in 1st to 2nd - the car is struggling badly, oddly reversing the car is fine!

Thoughts?

I've not been serviced in a while and the oil is low but not that low. It's my wifes car, could be 2 years since it was last serviced for all I know! and she doesn't know either

Where is the best place to buy a used car? Online from a private seller or through a dealer?

Looking for something decent with about 10k-20k miles on it

Looking to buy a 2nd hand car....2016....it’s a private sale.
Can you pay a mechanic etc to have a look at it? Is there anyone that provides this service?
We’ll do the Motorcheck.ie on it, there are a couple of options €8, €20, €35.....I presume it’s best to go with the most expensive (€35) option?
