I googled/YouTube that earlier, the lever is not near/above the pedals!
Checked all around there with a torch, no sign of it.

2011 Diesel Toyota Auris. Cant seem to change down from 5th gear into 4th, have to go via 3rd gear position first. Anyone know what this could be or if a serious problem?

Problem I’d imagine is in the gearbox. And that means only 1 thing sadly   $$$$

Yep, synchro & selectors wear in them, common in Toyota diesels. Tell tale signs that it’s on its way out is movement in the gearstick when you let off the clutch

Fingers I'm interested in buying a second hand quasqai,an 07/08 and probably the 1.6 petrol version...looking at them on line the price for them goes from €3500-€6000,same year, roughly same mileage and long nct's...any reason for this or is it just garages chancing there arms??? And are they troublesome (I know there basically Renault built car)????

You’ll always pay a premium in a garage but you’ll get warranty from a garage so you know it has to be half decent.
In fairness a car can pass the NCT with a flat battery, a half f**ked clutch and brake pads that are nearly gone.
If buying private, pay to get it checked out before by a mechanic
I’d also buy the 1.5 diesel as opposed to the petrol

Cheaper fuel, cheaper tax, better mpg and far more desirable when you come to sell

Of the models available I’d go for 1.4tsi or 1.6tdi and spec wise autos are generally better spec’d than manual equivalents. Both are €200 tax. The petrol is 140hp vs 105 in the diesel. Financially I’d go with the diesel, will hold it’s value better & deliver better economy. The TSI is a lovely performaning engine but needs regular maintenance
So 1.6tdi comfortline with alloys aircon etc

Buy a Skoda Octavia instead, they are more or less the same car, but ya might get it cheaper, Golf's still have a premium price for supposed reliability.
