Excellent, hopefully he cements that spot. He will have to in order to keep his place in the U21 XI with Lawal, Negru, Roughan all starting regularly at L1 level and Abankwah likely to join them now he's gone to Charlton. Grehan made the bench for Palace in the Carabao midweek and Alex Murphy is getting rave reviews at Newcastle also.

Seems like our pipeline of CBs shows no sign of stopping.

I'm definitely interested in his progress and also Murphy and Roughan because I think we can do with left footed CBs, we are very one footed in that department right now.

Dont forget Cashin, he's probably further along than those lads, Brighton were after him this week.

Tbh I forgot Cashin was left footed! Good point. Hopefully he gets out of Derby soon an playing at a higher level. I imagine Brighton would loan him somewhere initially if they go for him again in January.

Plays the full game in a 2-1 away win, got a yellow card, but was keeping a clean sheet until the 96th minute. PEC then went up the other end and scored the winner in the 97th.

He played at LB and was the highest rated Zwolle player on SofaScore.

2-1 away win. 7.8 rating.

Been a while since I have been impressed with a player in our U21s as much as this lad yesterday.

Interesting article on him a few weeks back he ranks very highly in Eredivisie stats among defenders and it was easy to see why yesterday he was good against Norway too but another level yesterday.

Really looking forward to his progress at club level and for Ireland and id hope he gets called up to the seniors in the next 12 months or so!

I was impressed by him too. He looks composed, strong and comfortable on the ball too. I would say he's not very far off a senior call up at all. We're severly lacking in both left-footed centre backs and left backs, both positions that he fills. He's seamlessly slot into the left of a 3 for us if the new manager goes down that path.

I hope we don't have any allegiance issues with him, he has been vocal about the possibility of playing with Spain.

Think this lad is well worth a call up next March and June. Regularly plays in a position that we lack options in and doing it at a decent level too.

Versatile too and Scales is our only other player that's a left footed CB in the squad and Cashin is the only other Irish CB in general that pops out as being left footed.

Sean Mcloughlin of Hull is a left foot centre half.

He's a good player with some potential. The obvious 'come and get me' pleas to the Spanish set up aren't a great sign though. Next manager needs to call him up and see what he does, put it to bed once and for all.

Where did he say this NT?

I've read a couple of his interviews with the Spanish media and I didn't see them as 'come and get me' pleas, just him being polite and saying he'd never close the door on Spain. Normal enough for a kid who grew up in Seville and who is Spanish as well as Irish. I don't think there's any doubt over his loyalty though and I don't think he's even on the RFEF's radar either, though that could change if his career takes off in the next couple of years. Hard to see him turning down a senior call-up should it come soon enough (especially as the Under-21s play only San Marino in competitive games before next September).

I think there is going to be a 'be careful what you wish for' realisation for a few on here when the new manager is appointed. There is no gaurentee that they are going to promote youth and give them a chance. We're likely going back to another pragmatic manager.

There are no 'senior' players left anymore.  Coleman is finished.  Duffy is out of form and at his last knockings. McClean is gone, Hendrick is finished and not playing.  There's only young lads left.

Yeah that squad had 3 players over 30 and Robinson is the oldest striker at 28.

From outside that squad, the only realistic over 30 incoming is Egan. Kenny did and the next manager alike, will have to promote youth. The barren 93-99 generation has made sure of that.
