Topic: Another angle on Celtic Posted: 27 Mar 2009 at 1:24am |
I know people on these boards have plenty of opinions on Celtic but what about the platform they provide for young Irish footballers egs Cillian Sheridan Darren O'Dea Ritchie Toner Declan Bunting etc. The likes of Chelsea Liverpool Arsenal and Aston Villa don't want to know about young Irish talent. Though Reading has a healthy Irish percentage of players a lot of them are bought from LOI teams, though I feel Eamonn Dolan does a very good job with their Academy. Sunderland and Blackburn also look to recruit young Irish fellas for their Academys.

Probably not. I think they would have hard time making it Stoke, or Sunderland.

Fair enough but my point is Celtic are prepared to give them a chance. Where as Chelsea Arsenal Liverpool would't even consider them. Who was the last Irish player to come through their Academeys ?

Thats very true and its never been harder for young Irish lads to break through. If Chelsea Arsenal and Liverpool ever produce anyone from their Acaameys the chances are they will be foreign.
I am just saying that Celtic actively recruit Irish lads which is reflected in their scouting set up.

You'd be a fool to go to any of the big boys the way things are going if you had options. a well established lower Prem/higher championship side would be best. Robbie Keane went to Wolves and got his debut at 17 and went on from there. That would be the best route imo
