I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but fair play to him. Has generally done well throughout his career at workmanlike clubs.

Fat Sam to manage Ireland one day?
Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

He's had heart surgery and had major health issues not too long ago, can't blame him after being involved in many relegation battles over the years to want to take a step away.

Thing is he'd probably chance it if the time was right, not exactly a stranger either due to his time with Limerick

He wants to travel? So that's the Guinness Brewery, The vineyards of France, all the Premier League Darts tournaments and the Mosconi Cup.

You forgot to mention him meeting up with Eric Bristow who now commentates on pub darts tournaments in Benidorm.

Could see this being the first of many retirements from him, and he'll keep getting dragged back by someone in the bottom 3 around Christmas every year.

I really don't think it is beyond the realms of possibility. It is worth noting that Blackburn have spent more in the last 7 years under Venky's than in the 7 before that under the Jack Walker Trust, Sunderland's next managerial appointment is absolutely key, especially when you see how weak their squad is.

With all due respect there are plenty of players in the current squad who would more than hold their own in The Championship.

I'd have absolutely no worries about the likes of Watmore, Oviedo, O'Shea, N'Dong, Khazri etc.

It's fine to base Sunderland's squad as weak because in PL terms it is weak and it was exposed, but there are some very poor sides quality wise in The Championship and I see no reason why a team that's motivated and properly organized that Sunderland will do fine next season. Not expecting us to set records or win the title but I've zero relegation worries.

First off, that is 5 of the club's best players, hardly a squad!
I am not suggesting Sunderland will go straight down, more that if things don't change at the club they will end up in the third tier, hence the Blackburn comparison. Another bad managerial appointment and further stagnation and it will be a long way back.
