For his achievements and consistency and longevity, I don't think there has been a better Manager, although Stein (as Shankly himself said) will be immortal for winning the European Cup with 11 local lads, that will never happen again.

As a side note the most successful manager after Ferguson and that's still in Football is Trap

He has built team after team after team. He nearly always knows the right time to get rid of players, even when everyone else is questioning his decisions. He plays the media perfect to detract attention from his players when needs be. He lives and breathes Manchester United, coming in to work at 7am almost every day for the last 23 years. He's won too many trophies to count. There won't be another Alex Ferguson for a long, long time, if ever. Genius. Legend.

Would agree with this. It took Fergie  three and half years to win his first trophy. He wouldn't have been given that much time nowadays even then it was probably that Cup win that saved his bacon and the rest as they say is history.

Yea think it was that Mark Robbins goal against Forrest on the way to the final that saved his job. Managers don't get enough time these days. It can take time to build a team but too many clubs want instant success. The fans can be just as impatient as the boards who appoint them though.

I have a massive respect for what he done at United.

I grew up with him sitting in United's dugout so it will be a and end of an era for not only me but for English foobtall when the man decides to retire.

He came with a mission and completed that, "To knock Liverpool off their f**king perch", And regardless of what Liverpool fans can say or think Souness doing most of the work, Fergie completed his mission.

So massive respect overall for the man, And hope to see him continue for another 4-5 years.

Out of order

Jose seems to like moving clubs, so he might get bored at Utd if he replaces fergie?
