The meniscus injury Idah picked up in his knee can take months to get right after surgery for sports professionals and especially for footballers due to high impact, high speed twisting/turning and abuse the knee joints take in an average match. At the best of times most knee injuries that need surgery are a slow process to recover from because leg muscle degradation falls rapidly.
The Meniscus is basically a part of the cartilage in the knee, his injury must have been severe if he needed surgery. Surgery for this doesn't repair the Meniscus, they either trim it to reduce further tears or completely remove and replace the meniscus with a donor. It must be the later if things are taking this long. If Idah had swelling issues and needed fluid syringed from his knee only two weeks ago, so I'd say the swelling/fluid issues havent cleared this soon and are recurring which is understandable given the injury.

That's how a lot of surgeries would be done these days. Longer recovery but less chance of it reoccurring. Injuries to the surrounding areas are always likely to happen. It's unfortunate for him because he badly needs a consistent run of injury-free games.

Thats awful. I really thought after his goal that this would be the season he kicks on. Hopefully 2023 will be the year for him.

That's another International window the lad will miss.
Terrible shame. I know he hasn't scored for us, but he also suffered through the terrible start to the Kenny era and hasn't had a sniff since we turned it around and started scoring.
Another long time to wait for his next chance to break his duck. |

It seemed an innocuous injury (or so I thought). At this rate he'd be better off having ruptured his ACL.

I see from this report at https://www.pinkun.com/sport/norwich-city/canaries-ncfc-dean-smith-injuries-team-watford-championship-9327326 that Dean Smith says he will start light training at the start of November - so best case scenario he is out for another month (and likely longer) it seems. Some run of injuries. You feel he has to get 20 games this season, somewhere - has played so few matches over the last 2 years or so.

I think at this point, if he can get 100% fit by the time the WC ends, that would be great. If he can start light training in early Nov, that gives him 8 weeks to get himself fully right. Hopefully he's banging them in come January!

Signed his long term five year deal three years ago and has probably spent half of it out injured. Still has 13 caps for us with ten of those as starts. Would likely be passed the 20 cap mark only for injuries.

Well at least there's a timeline now. If he's fit enough by January he should seriously consider going on loan. What he needs more than anything is 15-20 starts on the bounce to get fully sharp. He's not going to get at Norwich, behind Pukki, & Josh Sargent is scoring goals too. Much like Obafemi before February, Idah has never had a run of starts. Now in his 4th season of senior football, in 56 apps for Norwich he's only started 12 games. Only time he's started consecutive games was last season, 5 in a row, right before the injury, but he quickly started looking like he had PL ability. That game vs Everton really showed what he can do: That's exactly the type of thing we'll need vs France & Netherlands. |

The problem for him is I'm not sure that Dean Smith will allow him out on loan with his team pushing for promotion, why would he?

Doubt Norwich would be rushing someone out on loan with his injury record. Especially as clubs can use five subs so Norwich can manage his fitness while getting him playing time.
Last season they managed to get Pukki, Idah, and Sargent into the starting XI together a couple of times and Sargent has moved back out to right of a 4-2-3-1. During the week alright they went with two CFs in a 4-3-1-2. |

He won't. Smith likes Idah, and both himself and Pukki were looking like they were developing a partnership last season before Idahs injury. If he 4-2-3-1 is his formation of choice then Idah can come on for the AM with himself and Pukki working together. Similar if it's 4-3-1-2 he can replace one of the CFs or the AM with himself and Pukki swapping mid game. When they played 4-4-2 they'd take turns at who'll drop and who'll make runs in behind defenders. |

Yes, that highlight vid shows the potential in Idah if he can get over is injury woes. We seen it against Portugal when he played for Ireland too I can't see Norwich letting him go on loan either because they will want him in the squad after the world cup for the rest of the season. Idah offers something different too Pukki and Sargent, plus he is more mobile than Hugill. Edited by darman28 - 15 Oct 2022 at 2:46pm |

Linked with a January loan move to Derby by Alan Nixon in The Sun. Paul Warne was previously interested in him when he managed Rotherham.
