Quite a character!

Maradona has a few interesting things to say about him in his autobiography.
"One of the dominant facts in English life during the past three quarters of a century has been the decay of ability in the ruling class." Orwell, 1942.

Wouldn't have thought Argentina would be that bad. They had their bankruptcy 10 years ago but are well recovered now, they'll be fine in another 17 years.

Lovely country too. Great spot for a World Cup.

Eh Forbes think otherwise:

"Argentina is spiraling into chaos. The culprit here is the short-sighted, politically charged, irresponsible economic policy of the government, forcing up inflation, drying up investment, and triggering capital flight with each successive bad idea. The situation deteriorates each day, but Argentina is not yet slave to gravity alone. If its government acts decisively, it can still arrest this descent before it becomes a death spiral".

I agree from a cultural point of view it would be a great place for a world cup...but at the end of the day it's a complete basket case economically.

Inflation is nuts there alright. People buy cars as investments FFS! Buy it for €10,000 today, it'd cost €20,000 new in 3 years, so you sell your second hand one in 3 years for €12,000 and everyone makes a profit.

It's not dangerous (no doubt some journalist will tell us about dangers!), and doesn't feel any different to France/Spain/Italy from a first/third world perspective.

Culturally, food/drink/women and infrastructure wise it'd be very good.

Americans think everywhere is a dangerous 3rd world kip because they cant manipulate or control.

They'd want to look at their own sh*t-hole dangerous kips.

Yeah, but with rampant inflation, €10,000 now is worth as much as €20,000 in two years. You might be making money in number terms but not in real terms.

Is the correct answer
Eamonn Dunphy:"I'll tell you who wrote it, Rod Liddle, he's the guy who ran away and left his wife for a young one".

Bill O'Herlihy: Ah ye can't be saying that now Eamonn

Seems like the 6 confederations came up with it.  I suspect Argentina and Paraguay and Uruguay were told they were going to lose out.  Just like Turkey were told the same by UEFA.  So they hatched up this plan in return for supporting the Spain Portugal Morocco bid.

The biggest losers are the 3 teams that have to play their first game in Argentina Uruguay or Paraguay.

Will probably end up being Spain Portugal and Morocco 😀😀😀😀
AKA pedantic kunt

Fifa also confirmed only bids from countries from the Asian Football Confederation and the Oceania Football Confederation will be considered for the 2034 finals.
Getting three continents out the way in one tournament so they can go back to the middle east. The utter shamelessness of it.
