Probably saying fook all. They're pot 1 teams for a reason. Doubt they care who they get from pot 3. Somewhere that doesn't require long distance travel is probably their main.concern.

LOL

True for the players. The fans would be looking at trips, same as ourselves.

Anyone booking flights after the draw, I'd imagine the march games would be tight enough but surely we will be on the road for the September games.

That's what I've been thinking - would be hoping anyway for the less attractive away trips eg Faroe Islands, Wales, Denmark to be scheduled for March when I doubt if we'll be able to travel abroad by then, even if a vaccine has started a roll out across Europe before Christmas.

But surely things will be back to normal for next season? Who thought we would ever miss hanging around in an airport for a connecting flight? Cry

Shure Wales were Pot1 for 2018 and finished behind us....
Holland / Romania were also Pot1 and didn’t make it to Russia.

I doubt it has ever happened all top seeds have made it to the World Cup.

Holland 2002 and England / France 94 spring to mind.

Flight schedules have gone to the dogs - been cut to shreds understandable when planes are barely half full

Even flights booked relatively recently (2 weeks ago for mid dec ) getting shelved or timings changed significantly especially  dub - London . Prices when there is no alternative through the roof

While I agree that all pot 1 teams will probably not qualify it doesn't mean there is an obvious gap in standards.

Romania being top seeds last time was a surprise and they along with Wales were the ones to get.

I don't think it matters hugely who we get from Pot 1.  Unfortunately there is no country in pot 1 I'd be confident of finishing ahead of.  Croatia and Denmark look quite a bit weaker than Spain or France but probably too strong for us at the moment.

Pot 2 is totally different.  I'd really like to avoid Switzerland and Poland.  I think Ukraine would be a great away day and a new one for most however they have a really good side and best avoided.  Slovakia or Romania however would be very beatable although both would say the same about us.

Just had a look back, yeah it's never happened, closest was 2014/2006 when one team missed out. Decent return of Pot 3 teams qualifying too, how the hell do Serbia keep getting in Pot 3.

WC2018 - Holland, Wales and Romania failed from Pot 1
WC2014 - Norway (how were they Pot 1?)
WC2010 - Czechs, Croatia
WC2006 - Turkey
WC2002 - 5 failed from Pot 1
WC1998 - Russia, Sweden
WC1994 - England, France

Also of note, teams from Pot 3 who have qualified:
WC2018 - Serbia, Poland, Sweden
WC2014 - Serbia, Switzerland, Belgium
WC2010 - Serbia, Switzerland, Denmark (and Slovakia from Pot 4 and Slovenia from Pot 5)
WC2006 - Serbia, Switzerland (and Ukraine from Pot 4)
WC2002 - Ireland, Croatia, Poland (and Slovenia from Pot 4)
WC1998 - Austria, Croatia, Yugoslavia
WC1994 - 6 teams from Pot 3/4

Have to agree with you on that one .

My plan is to wait closer to the time to see if we can fly and i dont have to take 2 weeks at home for going overseas out of my holidays .

Agreed. It's unlikely to see many fans at games in March, but it might be back to normal by September - fingers crossed.

So would we have qualified if we beat Bulgaria at home? From what I read in the build up was that if NI didn't win we wouldn't qualify regardless. But some analysis afterwards says the opposite.

Can’t believe Slovenia have made it to 2 World cups...
and from pot 4 and 5

In 2010, Slovakia and Slovenia were actually in the same group.
Czech / Poland and NI were 1/2/3 seeds
