16 team league with no relegation will not happen. Forget it.

What would the minnow clubs like Shels do for the last 3/4 of the season when they realise they are going to finish nowhere? Then you will be whining games mean nothing.

Ok, Ill get into it. The three to go are Shels, Salthill and Dundalk as they are the smallest teams in areas that are too crowded.

The number of teams in a league is hardly the most important thing right now. Surely we should be more worried that every team that starts a season can finish it, however many that is.

I have been going to League of Ireland games for 45 years was at one last Saturday night. While their is a hard core support for the game at that level I dont think in will ever return to the interest of 50 years ago. New clubs cant just spring up the FAI tried that with Sporting Fingal, town like Tralee, Castlebar and Carlow will never be able to Support a team in the league. I dont know what the answer is but clubs just cant go on pulling out of the league. Monaghan lasted over 20years one would have thought that over that period support would have grown.
Try the 16 team league by all means but in a few years we could be talking about cutting it to 12 teams with four more clubs gone to the wall.

Take Wexford, Mervue and Salthill out. Bring Cobh and Galway back. 18 team league. That is of course if Dundalk don't go to the wall.

Why not 20 teams? With 20 teams playing each other twice it would mean more revenue, better away trips and more interest in general.

What is cobh's ground like?

Do they draw much support from outside the town?... I would imagine many corkonians would favour Cork City.

I thought I was going mad!!The number of teams shouldn't matter, once they are well run. That is the first thing. There has to be relegation and we need a proper pyramid system

Playing each other twice is essential and there has to be enough games for maximum gate revenue and sponsorship. More teams in the league does make a difference. We should bring more teams into the LOI, 22 is not enough. Well 20 and a half at he moment!!!

20 teams would mean a much longer season, more midweek matches which would reduce attendances and income than a normal weekend game, the longer season also means longer player contracts which in turn means its more expensive for the clubs
