I don't think its to long away before Sean Scannell and Alan Judge get called up regardless of any new faces. Friendlies are the place to try new fellas, particularly a lad from the US and who has only ever played in the MLS.

Bamford switched back to England around the time of his big money move to Chelsea....players who make these calculated moves shouldn't be considered.....there has to be a line somewhere

I think his reference to somebody who might pleasantly surprise could be a player like Scott Sinclair......the likes of Callum Wilson, Nathan Redmuns are good players but wouldn't be such a shock to see them included

That said, he was an £8m teenager with a wheen of under-age caps for them, going on to play 17 times at U-21 level, which presumably encouraged him to think it reasonable that he might reach the senior team. Can't see any chance now, mind, so he might re-consider his options? If so, I read somewhere that his father wouldn't be best pleased (to say the least) if he thought about representing ROI. Personally speaking, I'd have him for NI in the blink of an eye. |

I find the underage switching quite annoying and to help stop the abuse I feel there should be (like in cricket) a period of lets say 1 year where you can't play for your "new nation" if you decide to switch. It may stop the likes of Bamford declaring for us then switching which is bloody annoying.

Where'd you see that? All I read was that he's looking forward to playing in the U-21 Euros for England this summer. |

Can't see Bamford being chosen to play for the English senior team as he's still unproven at a higher level.
If Chelsea don't want him, he's likely to end up with one of the lesser lights in the EPL, including 'Boro if they go up. As he said himself, he won't rule out playing for either country. Clearly England is now his first choice and he used us to boost his profile (not dissimilar to the northern lads who switched to us). We will have to wait and see if he gets chosen for England. Unfortunately we will then be sloppy seconds which won't go down well with some of the die hards on here, who continuously show scant regard for dual qualified young fellas, who firstly only want a football career and if that takes off, are then faced with difficult choices.

No different than the Grealish situation unfortunately, born in England so he's keeping his options open.

Grealish has played for us from under-15/16 up to under-21 level and has never played for England. Bamford played 1 game at under-18 for us and is a current under-21 England international, they aren't even vaguely similar and it's idiotic comments like that that are making people lose their minds in the Grealish thread. |

I'm still slightly surprised at this England vs Ireland stuff as if the two are equally viable 'options' for any player with dual nationality. The England first XI is unbelievably difficult to break into, not unless you're a Rooney, Gerrard or Lampard or whatever. You would have thought going with Ireland would be a no brainer for the likes of Bamford and Grealish.

Agreed as said before on top of this page. He's a great prospect. The whole argument but he's had x caps at y level is just pathetic really, Ireland aren't in a position for snobbery and should welcome any player with open arms who will improve the team. Just look at Wales for f**k sake. 21st in the world and their captain is as English as a pint of John Smith's

Can see Bamford being an ideal replacement for Robbie Keane.
Would be a perfect career move for him too. Potential star.
Him and Grealish could do great things in a green jersey.

This granny rule is a disease that will turn Ireland into a uk b team, embarrassing, it does not matter what players we need if their not Irish we don't want them
