A lot of these one day strikes are pointless you generally have to go all out to really get what you want. Maybe they should get some help from the union who negotiated the Luas strike deal €57,000 for 38 hour week.

thought his answer on Brexit was very good in fairness, how it goes back to principles and they weren't voting for the Brexit they've gotten, they were just asked "in or out". He's 100% right about the political class in the UK as well whether you agree with how he wants society to look or not. A pity that his quotes about the war in Ukraine weren't out before the interview

cop out - Brexit was always going to be a sh*t storm and as i said earlier when look around you and you see the likes of JRM and Gove on the same side you have to ask yourself - is this really the right side to be on ?

I agree with you on that NR but I don't necessarily think he's copping out, it's more than he's very consistent in his principles. I think he was completely wrong to think that you could vote out and somehow steer Brexit in a way that wouldn't be a sh*tshow (although he is right when he says that this Brexit is the most extreme right-wing version of it).
When I said his answer was good, I meant more than he was consistent even within the interview, that you need to have principles and beliefs and policy and different political stances come from that. Which is where Labour are really weak at the moment, they don't seem to have any actual beliefs at the minute.

Lexit will always have a certain amount of traction. As it was never implemented it means that it’s inevitable failure will not have been seen in real time, which allows people to invoke the ‘benefit of the doubt.’ The Tory led Brexit is what we got, and has failed.
As I understand the concept of Lexit, was also underpinned by a “hard Brexit”, which no matter who was in charge, would be unable to control it.

you can't tar all brexiteers with the same brush. they come in all different shades of dopeyness. as for the rmt, one of the main reasons they backed brexit was to end freedom of movement. the decision was made in the questionable belief immigration results in depressed wage growth. they listened to their members and set out the unions position as a result. their views had nothing to do with jrm or gove who have their own disaster capitalism plans post brexit. lets not forget how vague the question asked at the time was. brexit could have been delivered in many different ways from efta membership to the hard brexit we got. the rmt got it wrong. the result of the referendum will leave their members poorer and inevitably they'll see their employment rights chipped away at by the far right tories.

CY2k I tend to agree with Harold McMillan who when asked should he consult with the people via a referendum said ‘I would sooner ask my valet Leaders should lead not just parrot what their members want to hear which is exactly the same as unionism on this island The republican leadership has lead their constituents to where they are now no unionist has done that Trimble tried it but reverted ti type pretty quickly Poor judgment call by the union - I can understand the ‘we have to make the best of it ‘ but no regrets ? |

Good article.
Lynch’s detached, almost amused scorn spoke for many of us, not just about Piers Morgan, but also about how long we have been putting up with a media culture that means you can find 17 stories ... |
