He really doesn't get the big picture. This isn't about picking a team

Decent enough read from Roddy until the line about Dolan running the FAI!

Bit of a hatchet job on Packie. Good point that it isn't hard to find a good manager and that the FAI are making it hard

I normally find him good for a laugh but that is a terrible piece. I have no idea how good packie is at his job, maybe hes not great i don't know but even the 1st line is out of order. Too personal all over.

It reads a bit like it was sent to an editor with a comment saying “imagine we published something like this for a laugh” and the editor missed the joke and published it.

It’s hard to read as it is such a personal attack on everyone.

He pretty much ruled himself out of any future involvement after the last set of friendlies. No surprise he isn't involved.

You'd think a lesson would be learned from the previous occasions we've given the job to someone without adequate/any experience in managing players of this level [Staunton/Kerr/Kenny]. And don't give me the "But no likey no lighty nutmegged Figo once" guff. Staunton played at a high level as well and there were stories about the players not respecting him. Go back to Neil Lennon or Mick McCarthy and just give it to them if they have noone else FFS. Our best success came with managers who can command a modicum of respect and have at least a semblance of tactical ability, which Paddy showed none of against Belgium's reserve team and the Swiss.

O'Shea said for the last two friendlies that he would of approached them differently if it was a permanent role. He's not going to do anything different this time around as far as experimentation. Going to be a rinse and repeat again minus Ferguson, Bazunu and whoever else at that stage.

O'Shea knows he's not getting the job now so they should make it clear to him that his job is to blood players in both of those games.

Not saying you're wrong but Lee Carsley was our great white hope. He has 0 senior managerial experience and the majority of his England U21 games were smashing teams of kids who will never play at the top level, with a team of Premier League players. His England U21 team had Cole Palmer, Anthony Gordon, Morgan Gibbs-White, Levi Coliwill and Emile Smith Rowe in it. He had Noni Madueke, Jarrad Branthwaite and Harvey Elliot to come off the bench.

That England U21 team was absolutely bursting with talent. If you gave JOS that team, I'm pretty sure he could bumble his way to at least a semi-final.

I don't want JOS to get the job, but if our plan all along was Carsley or bust, it wasn't as if he was a sure thing to succeed.

Does he though? He was probably fed the same nonsense from Canham as the rest of us.
