Yet he couldn't get a few mins in two friendlies.

Surprised O Shea didn't give him minutes having brought him. Ideal opportunity to stick Collins in midfield for a few mins to make space for him, kill two birds with one stone in terms of trying things....

The ideal opportunity was when he decided to bring on Doherty. But instead of taking off Coleman too, he brought Doherty on for Omobamidele and.moved Coleman into right centre half. To compound that sub before 60 mins, he left Coleman finish the game out there.

Really bad stuff.

I still don't understand what logic he had for giving Seamus 180 minutes in 4 days. It doesn't benefit the player or the team. He was rested last night by Dyche for that very reason.

Would have been great to see O'Brien get minutes. More than earned and would arguably be a starter on merit at this point.

O'Shea's remit wasn't to blood players during the two games, it was to do the best he could in the 2 games (a mistake in my opinion). So that's why all of the new lads didn't get game time.

There's a balance between blooding new players and running your 35 year old captain into the ground.

Seamus had played 7 games all season before the international break.

Playing Coleman and Brady for almost the entirety of both games was, in simple terms, brainless. There's no justification for it.

Even if O'Brien did play, the goal posts would move and posters would still be whinging about somebody else.

Then when he does play, the realisation that he is not a reincarnation of Maldini, then he will just morph into another scapegoat until the next flavour of the month comes along.

Best thing he could have done cause fans would be joining in with his mates, media saying he should get the job if we somehow fluked a pointless friendly.

Any chance he has of getting it is now gone after that game/his team selection.

Apparrently JoS came out and stated that if he was the fulltime manager, he'd have picked a different squad as to what he picked with his remit only as an Interim.
I can't find the quote now so take with as much salt as suits, but it's interesting if true.

Ironically his chances of getting the results (and probably the Irish job) would've increased if he played an in form O'Brien over some/all of the games instead of running Coleman and Brady into the ground. He took a few games to get going but he's adapted superbly in France considering the jump in quality from the Belgian second tier. We're not going to get hammered if we give him an hour over the two games. And it's not like Collins, O'Shea and Omobamidele have made themselves undroppable this season with some of their individual defending.

As soon as Liam Scales gets a game or two for Celtic he's parachuted straight in. Lad plays in the French league, gambles on himself, and is just left to pick up splinters.

You can't just play all new lads without experienced lads in there and expect to get results.

That said, I'm not agreeing that JOS made the best use of the players he had etc

It was 2x friendlies. It's quite easy to mix it up a little.

Should of known what was coming when he selected Brady in the squad - was always gonna be conservative selections from that point. JOS was never going to make massive changes and risk getting rinsed & possibly ending his managerial career before it started. As mentioned in previous posts its still baffling that he never found an opportunity to give JOB as few minutes.

Yeah it was daft he didn't get at least a full game when it's friendlies. Collins, O'Shea and Omobamidiele aren't undroppable so giving another lad a chance is good squad building. Not saying he is a saviour like but until our current starters go up a level or two beyond what they are now you need to experiment in the hopes for better.

If JoS was looking to pick a team that won either or both games, he didn't do that well.

Maybe it's a rock and a hard place issue but if you put forward that you're picking teams to get results and don't, that's a failure. If you pick a team to experiment in friendlies, you kind of get a bit of a free pass (for a period/in isolation). Maybe he thought his best shot was 2 positive results but ended up between two barstools.

Of course there was, he was put there to try to win the games to get himself the job, why wouldn't he pick what he felt was the strongest XI? It wasn't his job to try out players for the future

And I thought Brady actually played fairly well against Belgium.
