Ah come on Shoco. Thats a bit naive. He isint faced with a choice so much as he is faced with a dillema. It is simple, he wants to play for England, we wouldnt be having this conversation if he didn't. But the commitment he made to Ireland is standing in the way of that. He may stay with Ireland but will it be what his heart wants.

Anything we can do as supporters?....a petition/a video sharing our hopes/dreams/joys/despairs of being an Irish football supporter...send him Irish jerseys with Rice on the back....something with humour/a bit different....yeah in an ideal world he’d be 100% committed but he is English born and while he clearly has a strong affinity with Ireland I don’t see any problem with him feeling that conflict of emotions....and if there are more mercenary considerations,so what...he’s 19 yrs of age ffs!....(I’m coaching some U16 kids who are precisely that i.e kids...and they are just 3 yrs younger than him!!!) don’t think we’re dealing with a Grealish type here....this guy is a leader and a footballer and we need him.....would be great if in some small, respectful, humorous, distinctly Irish way we could encourage him to be the foundation stone of the Irish team for next 10 yrs plus....forgive the cock eyed idealism😀

Interesting that all of the talk on UK social media today is whether he will sign a new contract with West Ham, not whether he will declare for England.
People are nearly forgetting how big the English talent pool is and how Rice declaring for England would only be a very minor story for them compared to the big story for us of him quitting the Irish team.

What does he think is picking ... a club ffs.
This is to play for your country. Simple as that. It should be a very very easy decision if there is a choice. This 'toughest decision' business is horsesh1te, as I said this isint a choice between 2 clubs. If he wants to play for England then fine, but don't be wasting peoples time playing to the galleries while sitting on the fence like its a difficult decision.

That article convinces me even more that he's gone. He's described it as "the toughest decision of his career". I'd consider it the toughest decision of someone's life..
The fact that he's looking at it from a career perspective means it's England all the way.

Once he pulled out of the squad his decision was made. He may be ‘reflecting’ on that decision but I can’t see him playing for Ireland again. |

I'm well aware. I would love to have him back in the squad was what I was getting at, as you well know. |
