Cheers, couldn't find it. A few lads from South Armagh should have a reunion in Luton. Just a small get together.

That was a wild tackle by Choudhury for England u21s last night. What was the damage done to the French player, only saw the tackle on twitter, be surprised if there was nothing broken.
Turned the game around from what I hear with France nicking it late on after a Wan Bissaka own goal Foden scored a good goal and France also missed two penalties, think the United youngster in goals saved them both?

Think the French lad was grand but it was a wild challenge. Henderson saved one the other penalty hit the post. England probably looked the better after they scored all right, great goal by foden but the French were (IMO) probably the better team up until that point, as in they created more chances. How Wan Bissaka is been touted as €60M I don't know.

He had a shocker alright, anytime I've seen him for Palace he has been excellent! Not the best going forward mind. Mental he's being touted at £60m while it looks like City are getting Cancelo for £50m. |

I think it's hard to gauge how good he is going forward as he's more than likely under strict enough instructions from Hodgson not to be bombing on. They have Van Aanholt on the other side who spends half the game in the other half so more than likely Wan-Bissaka has to stay back. He's a converted winger though so you'd imagine he would be handy enough going forward if given the license to do so.

An account by an England fan at the match on Sunday.
After a pre-match meal with some friends (with very little alcohol), we left the restaurant (5 minutes walk from the stadium) at 5.50pm, plenty of time to get into the ground nice and early.
I had already downloaded the NHS app and was ready for the Covid pre screening as we started walking to the stadium. Upon reaching the barrier, it quickly became clear that the organisation was a shambles. There were hundreds of people pushing and shoving and the 3 stewards had no idea on how to control the crowd or direct them. Some children were allowed one way through the barrier and others weren’t. In the end we moved round to the other “entrance” through the barrier but before we reached the front of the queue there had been another surge of pushing and shoving and we were squashed up against the barrier. Then the barrier was knocked over and there was a free for all, with hundreds of people surging past the 3 stewards. No police were on duty at that point. The stewards then didn’t carry out any more Covid checks before I walked up the stairs. It was clear there would be massive problems later and I spoke to a police officer who just shrugged her shoulders and said “There’s a load of dickheads down there”, without realising the irony that the police should have been down there controlling the dickheads! My ticket was in Entrance 1 Gate D and I started walking to the concourse. As I got to the turnstile, my ticket did not work and neither did hundreds of other people’s. I looked for a steward and there were none to be found. I then walked 2 sections to find someone and found a steward, a few others in the same position were with me as well. She said she would take us to the Information Desk to get our tickets sorted out, so she led us to another block where the Information Desk was, but it was closed! 75 minutes before a major final, the Information Desk was closed- you couldn’t make it up. I then walked to another gate to try and find someone who could help me get my ticket activated. It was 6.50pm now, an hour since we left the restaurant. There were 2 stewards by the disabled entrance at Gate C and I explained to them what had happened. They said that someone was coming up and would be there “in around 20 minutes” as other people had also reported the same problem. He asked me to wait against the back wall, which I did, with another steward. A few minutes later, 2 disabled supporters in wheelchairs arrived at the disabled entrance. The stewards opened the door to allow them in at which point, total mayhem followed. There were literally hundreds of people storming the gates at this point. I was against the back wall, in between the now-fully opened door and the wall. There was an almighty crush, and as someone who has been attending professional football games for 45+ years, this was no ordinary crush. I was having to hold onto the door to try and keep on my feet and then the force of the crush literally swivelled me round as I was spun into the stadium. At that point I knew that I had to keep on my feet as I would probably have been trampled to death, no exaggeration. I ended up in a totally different part of the stadium to where I should have been, but to be honest I was mainly thankful to be in one piece. A grazed arm, cut hand, bruised shoulder and sore ribs will all heal soon enough but the events on Sunday evening have left me in no doubt that this could very easily have been another Hillsborough. Having attended World Cup and European Championship games abroad, there is usually a ring of steel around the stadium and if you haven’t got a ticket then you aren’t getting with 500 yards of the stadium. There was an alarming lack of stewards, and the ones that were on duty didn’t seem to have any real experience of dealing with crowds. The lack of policing was shocking and it was with disbelief that I heard the Deputy Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor admitted that the Metropolitan Police had not expected so many people to arrive at Wembley without tickets. In my opinion, there needs to full a full and independent inquiry into what went wrong, with FSA involvement to make sure that this doesn’t happen again. DM , a friend of mine in South London sent me this a couple of hours ago .
" One of my neighbours was there ( he was at all previous Wembley matches ) and said he had no trouble but that when he got to Wembley way , around 6pm it was already a horrible atmosphere , a sea of cans and bottles and things looking like they'd get nasty . He said there was a lot of " tailgatting " attempts at the turnstiles , even more than he saw at the previous match , word seemed to have spread "

I've been to Wembley maybe 30-40 times: Just reading accounts of Sunday, it looks like the level of stewarding and policing was a lot less than any time I've been there. For such a high profile game, you'd have to wonder how that could have happened.

They have publically said there was more stewards and police at the final then at any event held there before.
This is what I was sent about it. A friend's Aunt had a ticket for the father but he has parkinsons so a few hours before the game they told him not to go as they could see there was trouble. My brother then took the ticket in the end and got caught up in it all. He was pleased our dad didn't go with the carry on. We really wanted him to experience it, bless him. There was someone in his seat then!!! And the stewards couldn't move them! The media didnt show half of it. UEFA have fined them etc but sure they don't care.
Such a bad end to a lot if hard work that went into it all. In Baku and St Petersburg they had their army's at the match days, thats what you need, not stewards getting paid a few quid an hour! And lets not even go there on the rascist vandlism. Disgusting all around :( |

Its an unfortunate display of old habits dying hard. I was interested in advance of the Denmark game to hear Simon Jordan on Talksport commenting that the 'English Disease' as it was once called, was a wider problem, and the moniker was 'unfair'. It ignored the fact that even though hooliganism did indeed have an international aspect to it, England was the 'Problem Child' of the phenomenon. I read articles recently about FBI meetings in 1992, in advance of the 1994 World Cup, and how to treat the potential hooligan problem, and much of the focus was on England's behaviour between 1988-1992 (they needn't have worried given how qualification turned out). England got the reputation as when trouble brewed, they were almost always involved.

England played the USA at Foxboro, MA in 1993 and FBI agents were all over downtown Boston the day of the game monitoring the England fans. The England fans were singing no surrender to the IRA all day to the Massholes.

Funny how the 'keep politics out of football brigade' had no trouble travelling across Europe and America with their politics. In fact, given what transpired around that period, and of course what happened in Dublin in 1995, one could argue they were the first English fans to politicise football.
