Without Adeleke - I doubt they would make the final.

Yes, but it takes them from sixth in the world down to 16th. A shame as it would have been nice to see another Irish team in a final and while a medal was extremely unlikely, you just never know with relays.

They just let the junior members of the team run instead, give them some experience.

Lot can happen in an year.

I'd be confident that Rhasidat will make the 400m final next year.

Also that both Mageean and Healy will make the 1500m final.

Beyond that you're looking at Kate O'Connor coming top ten in the hepta and Lavin possibly making the 100m hurdles final if she has no injuries.

Tommy Barr and Mark English should make semi finals and one or both of the Flanagan twins could make the Steeple final again injury dependent.

We'll have a strong team in the women's marathon I hope but I'm personally biased there as some on here know LOL

Pity the tickets are extortionate as otherwise would be jumping on tickets for 1500 final and 400 final sessions

Bol could compete in the flat depending on the schedule and America's Wilson (49.1) and Miller-Uibo (48.3) I am sure there are others who are missing too.

The women's 4x400m will be running on Saturday and they have an opportunity to get into another final - although a very tough heat.

You'd expect McLaughlin and Naser to be back next year, those two and Paulino are comfortable sub 49 runners. So that's the level Adeleke will have to get to if she's going to win an Olympic medal in Paris. She got her PB down to 49.2 this year, will need to take another half a second or thereabouts off that next year. That's entirely possible though.

The good news is that given her age she'll get three Olympics at peak condition if she stays fit. She'll be 21 next year, then 25 and 29 for the two Olympics after that. Plenty of time and opportunity for her and she's flying so far relative to her age.

Our involvement was mostly stacked towards the first half of the Championships. There's Boyce in the race walking tomorrow morning, as well as Fay in the 5000m heats and English in the 800m semi finals tomorrow evening. After that it's just the women's 4x400 team at the weekend - that's about the most interesting one we have left. But in terms of medal contenders that's us done now for this year.

Will be very interesting to see what Rhasidat can do next year when her coaching will be fully aimed towards peaking in Paris, she was always at a disadvantage in this event. However the field will be stronger next year. She'll probably need to run sub 49 to ensure an Olympic medal, but I wouldn't put it past her. She's still learning the event.

Mageean will have it harder I think because she probably doesn't have as much improvement in her as Adeleke does. Mageean's best hope of a major global medal is probably getting an upgrade in last night's race at some point down the line.

I wonder would Mageean have scope to step up to the 5000m. You typically see athletics peak for those middle distance events in their mid to late 30s (in the longer events like the marathon, it can even be into to the early 40s!)

Quick google - Paulinho won silver at Tokyo with 49.20.
48.36 was gold for Miller - Uibo who switched to 200m as main focus as far as Google tells me. If that doesn’t work out she might be back in the 400m field.
