Play-doh is mostly cornflour, water and colourant. It is horrible but at least it's non-toxic.

Plasticine is equally non-toxic but made of completely different stuff (petroleum jelly, mostly). I'd imagine vasoline tastes terrible so that's probably why plasticine tastes nasty.

Play-doh was a bit softer IIRC. Marla is the Irish word for plasticine apparently.
