Has Kevin Hart ever been in a good film? Wouldn’t go near anything with him in it.

The trailer was released yesterday for Jake Gyllenhaals new film 'Roadhouse', a remake of Patrick Swayzes 1980s film.
It seemed to be looking good before the introduction of the big bad villain, Mr Conor McGregor. acting exactly how Conor McGregor does. I think it's called 'chewing up the scenery'.

Bob Marley One Love. 6/10. Worth a watch if you like his songs. Not a patch on bohemian rhapsody and just as I thought it was hitting it's stride it ended.

Some wans I've watched recently.

JFK

Watched this in one sitting. Gripping stuff before Oliver Stone completely lost the run of himself. Full of big names chewing the scenery [Tommy Lee Jones, Joe Pesci, Kevin Bacon] while Donald Sutherland's cameo portraying "X" is mesmerising. Kevin Costner does a marvelous job anchoring things.

Field of Dreams

This is the better of the Kevin Costner baseball movies.

Bull Durham

Can't understand the hype about this one at all. Bored the pants off me.

The River Wild

First time watching this since I was a child. Holds up pretty well.

Boogie Nights

Fantastic. Reminded me of a Scorsese flick with the way it was edited.

The Killer

A bit self-indulgent. Been a few months since I watched it and can't remember much about it TBH. One of the fight scenes reminded me of something from a video game. Unrealistic and took me out of the movie. Expected better from David Fincher.

Killers of the Flower Moon

After recovering from making a tit out of myself by asking for tickets to "Flowers of the Killer Moon", I settled in and watched Leonardo Di Caprio in one of his best acting performances and somewhat of a return to form for Robert De Niro. Real misery porn this was. The whacking scenes and the screwing around of the Osage got so repetitive at one stage that it almost reached a point of absurdity to me. I believe at one stage people in the cinema laughed. There are no likeable characters in the movie. I don't mean that in a bad way necessarily; it's just unremittingly the evil of man. I'd probably put it somewhere in the middle if I was ranking Scorsese's stuff.

Road House

Great craic. Really enjoyed this wan.

The Animal

Pretty funny. Rob Schneider is underrated as a comedic actor.

Magnolia

Was pretty tired and not in the mood when someone else stuck this on. It's a Paul Thomas Anderson movie so it's a pretty interesting watch. Bit overly long and pretentious and not sure it all came together in a way to make it all worthwhile. Thought it came apart a wee bit at the end to be honest. Will watch again some day with less bleary eyes.

Someone to Watch Over Me

Formulaic 80s romantic thriller about a married cop played by Tom Berenger assigned to protect a socialite played by Mimi Rogers after she witnesses a murder perpetrated by the one-armed man from The Fugitive. Romance, and danger, ensues. Watchable but there are better genre movies out there.

Green Book - Vigo mortenson plays an Italian American who acts as a chauffeur/minder to a black pianist in early 60s Deep South

A bit predicable but thoroughly enjoyed it - the two leading actors are excellent - based on a true story
'Irish' Songs for an Irish team - no SPL EPL generic sh*te
Richard Dunne - 6th Sept 11 - best marshalling of a defence in Moscow since General Zukov Russia V Germany 1941

All Quiet on the Western Front on Netflix. Harrowing watch, 10/10
8/10 Pretty solid film and some scenes that were fairly graphic alright. It was a horrific war and when they say it was a human slaughter house they were not wrong.  Always enjoyed movies from a German point of view, Stalingrad (1993) and Downfall are stand out ones.

Just finished this, absolute masterpiece. The cinematography is unbelievable on an ultrawide screen.

Punch-Drunk Love

Heard great things about this. Adam Sandler's first serious role with the highly rated Paul Thomas Anderson directing. Thought it was dreadful. Like a 90 minute dream sequence. Pretentious nonsense. Already can't even remember how it ended.

I've watched an array of movies i'd never normally watch lately -

The Vow (Netflix) - newly married couple, head over heels. car crash, loses her short term memory, cant remember the husband so he has to start all over again with all sorts of obstacles, family resisting the boy from the wrong side of the tracks. This wan was chosen by the missus and whilst it was fairly shoite, it's not bad for appeasement of the other half should she need to choose a film. The biggest thing going for this movie is the National "England" as part of the soundtrack. Fcuking tune. 6/10

I see you (netflix) - f**k sake lads, i used to fancy Helen Hunt, but she looks like Rocky Dennis in this with the work she has had done. Thriller with boys going missing, dodgy carry on in the family home. Thought it would be utter scutter but pleasantly surprised. 6.8/10 for what it is.

The Guilty (netflix) - Jake Gyllenhaal stars as a demoted cop who is manning a dispatch line. Takes a call from a damsel in distress and story unfolds from there. Few twists along the way in a movie that largely remains in one scene. Decent 6.9/10

Couldn't watch violent movies or horror movies with my ex so I watched a lot of romcoms and shoite like that. Haven't got my nut in ages but now I can watch what I want whenever I want. The Fog (1980) and Prince of Darkness. Cool
